Disappearing settings

So I turn on my powerbook (g4, 1.5 ghz, 1gb ram) today, and all of my user settings are gone. Desktop, dashboard, Adium/firefox, everything. Why the hell is this happening?

It's like I just turned my computer on for the very first time basically, and all my applications had never before been opened.

Check how much free space you have on your system drive.
This usually happens when the drive is out of space.

1. What version of OS X are you using?
2. Open your HD on the desktop and go into the Users folder. Does it look like there are any duplicates?

My hard drive isn't full, but I have no idea what my home folder is even supposed to be called? Or the folder within it that has all of my stuff. Believe it or not, this happened when I was quickly wiping down my keyboard this morning. I thought that would be impossible.
How do I find out what the home folder is supposed to be called? I've tried all forms of my name that I thought itm ight be and none have worked.

Your home folder is located here: Hard Drive-->Users-->yourusername. When you setup your computer, you created a user account with a user name and a short user name (which is not supposed to be changed after you create it). Depending on the version of Mac OS X you're using, it's possible it was changed without warning you, and upon restarting the computer, you logged into a new account. If you navigate to your Users folder, how many are listed (not including Shared)?

There are 6, excluding shared.
There is one with the home folder icon with my first and last name in all lower case, one word. There is another with just my first name, with a capitalized first letter, in the same folder. Is this the way it's supposed to be?
I have OS X version 10.4.11

No, that's not the way it's supposed to be.
The one with just your first name, capitalized - can you read its contents? 100:1 that's where all your files are, and you or your significant other decided to rename the home icon in the Finder window sidebar sometime in the past few weeks.
