There are a few threads about saving trailers, etc.

The most general method of saving quicktime movies without QT Pro and without digging through temp files is to find the URL of the movie in the web pages source and download it directly with wget or curl.

Here are step by step directions:

1) Go to the page where the movie will play from.
2) Select your browser's "view source" command.
3) Search for ".mov" (or .mpg, or whatever the movie is.)
4) Copy the embedded URL (make sure to get thr right one. It should be fairly clear, but especially with Apple's akami'd pages, the URL can be a bit confusing).
5) Download the contents of that URL.
The best tool for this is wget or curl from the command line.

Here 's how to use curl:
1) Open the terminal.
2) Type <font face = "courier">curl -O "</font>
(that's curl dash capital o space quotation mark)
3) paste in the URL you copied
4) type another quotation mark and press return.
The file downloads into your home folder.

Hope this is useful,
Zach

Added support for LM983X scanners:
* Canon N650U, D660U, N670U, N1220U, D120U, N1240U
* Epson 1250
* HP 2100C, 2200C
* Umax 3400
* BearPaw 1200, 2400
* Genius (6 different USB models)
* Plustek (8 different USB models)

And it actually works! $40 but what they hey... it's better than frigging booting into classic all the time!</STRONG>
Err, how is that related to saving mpeg/mov files?

Maybe it's a random info posting thread?

In any event, the d/ling QT movies might be useful. Although looking through source code and finding the url that you want might take as long as finding the actual movie in your comp (in the temp files folder, or wherever it might be)...

VueScan still does not support my old Umax Astra 1220U scanner.

These instructions are woefully inadequate.

Let's see you download a streaming QT movie that way (for example, any keynote).

If you try this trick on a streaming movie you'll most likely get a tiny stub file and not that actual movie itself. (If you open the stub file will open in QT player and then re-stream the movie).

There are ways to do it, but it's a black art.

After watching the quicktime movie you want, but cannot save, open &gt; users/?/library/preferences/explorer/temporary files WITHOUT closing the page with the quicktime movie.
Just drag the file from that window on your desktop and voila.

try going to:

rtsp://URLforstreamingmovie

in your web browser.... this should open up the QT Player and play the movie. It won't, of course, save the movie, but it should allow you easier access to the streaming movie without having the find the webpage where the QT movie is embedded within each time you want to view the streamed media.

Oookay.. well this works most of the time, for the other 10%, well, the King wouldn't quite tell us

There really is no true fixed way to do it, but I can lead you in the right direction. Let me note that the stream has to be on demand and not live.

Now let's say you want to download the Power of X Presentation:

Go to the site.

Then you'd get the source of the site, and look for ".mov" keep going (Command-G) until you find a file with the word "ref" iun its name. It is essential that you get the reference file for it to work. For that particular stream, it is this

Usually the links are akamai links and aren't as blatantly obvious as that one, but they'll always have the word "ref" somewhere in the name.

Now download the reference file, it should only be a couple kilobytes.

Open the file with TextEdit, or your favorite text editor.

The following should be in there:
moovrmraapple.com/events/jan/osx_keynote/powerofx_ref_28.movamai.net/3/1789/2819/3c3c98a2/1a1a1a76ea5cc1228fbd2ea21846a71787f35886e958c5f459 cf34a21689b82283f1208f027ad944a92290ff 73d8/powerofx_56.mov/B>sp://a939.qt1vod.kamai.net/3/939/2819/3c3c98a3/1a1a1a76ea5cc1228fbd2ea21846a71787f35886e958c5f459cf34a21689 b82283f1208f027ad944a9229 0ff73d8/powerofx_100.movnote/powerofx_ref_300.movOTE>

Now it looks like there's a 56, 100, and 300 version. What you do is take the name of file, for instance, powerofx_100.mov, and then combine it with the original link above.

<font face = "courier">http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/jan/osx_keynote/powerofx_ref.mov
< font color = red>&uarr;powerofx_100.mov&uarr;</font></font>

and you get:

<font face = "courier">http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/jan/osx_keynote/powerofx_100.mov</font>

Which is 55 MB so I am guessing it works You can experiment with other numbers, 56, 100, 300, and even 1000 but they all don't usually work.
I hope this helps
