I finally switched all the way to OS X.1.5 now that it finally supports 2-D acceleration on my Rev A iMac. I get good speed on video and such, but I'm looking to get as much speed possible outta this. Is there any way I can turn off menu animations? As in when you let go of a menu it fades out as opposed to going straight off which seems to slow things down a tad. Also what's the best alternative to AIM for OS X? I ran top on the terminal and AIM was eating between 30 and 50% of my processor while it wasn't even doing anything! it's way bad. Are there any 3rd party ones that can still do file sharing?
In case you were wondering I'm on a Rev A iMac, 10.1.5, 384 MB RAM, 500 Mhz + Firewire Harmoni G3 upgrade, Gamewizard Voodoo 2 card (pretty useless in OS X )

2. A good replacement for AIM is Adium or Proteus for multi-client, but no 3rd party AIM client has file sharing.

Try ShadowKiller from www.unsanity.com . This turns off all drop shadows making menus and windows speed up many many times. Only disadvantage is that there are no black borders. I just wish Apple would implement this feature as an option (with borders obviously).
