Hi. I have a Pismo and for the first year of ownership, no problems. Now the DVD player is loud and also shakes the
computer it spins so hard. Do I have to buy a new player or
what? It works fine, I just never noticed it so loud before. It
also doesn't spin down when I'm not using it. It will just buzz
(audibly and you can feel it in the keypad) along sometimes
for hours before it decides to stop spinning. Thanks for any
help.

Try installing a CD-R (preferably one with music or something recorded on it I suppose) with no label and see if it still shakes. Often times DVDs have thick off set labels that will cause their drives to rumble a little. If it doesn't move with the CD with nothing on it then it's probably the DVD disks themselves. If it still shakes rattles and rolls then your drive is a tad out of alignment.

Which drive do you have? Use the Apple System profiler to check. The drive from LG are terrible. My drive on the Pismo went and than was an LG. It behaved a lot like your description in your post. Do you have APP? If you do, then Apple will send you a new one.

Ugh. I've got the LG, too. Mine can be nosy and vibrate a lot at times, too.

I do have APP, though, so . . . what do I do? Is it just a matter of calling or going by an Apple Store, telling them about the situation, and getting a replacement? Or are they going to make it hard for me?

Oh yeah my original LG drive in pismo shook and vibrated too before it kicked the bucket. I guess its time for you and ARK to visit http://search.ebay.com/search/search...&query=UJDA710 often and get a good deal on a replacement drive!

Interesting.. but how do you put that one into the Pismo.. obviously take out the old LG drive and put in the new and attach the faceplate. is there anything else to it? how hard is attaching the faceplate? anyone have directions on the whole process?

Also.. what software do you need and/or is Apple CD burning automatically enabled and supported on these drives you mentioned?
- Dual 1Ghz Quicksilver /w 1G RAM, GeForce4 Ti, 17" Studio Display, Soundsticks, 10.4.11
- iPhone 3G 16G Black
- 30Gig Video iPod

- MacBook Pro or iMac (soon hopefully)

It doesnt look too shabby without the faceplate. Actually I could not put the faceplate on bcos the later versions of pismo seem to have the screws at the bottom to hold the faceplate and the drive has it on the top. Anyway here are a coupla links that may help you:

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/PB_G3/oem...mbo_drive.html

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/PB_G3/oem...mbo_drive.html

once the OS X Support File is changed accordingly, get it from here:

http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/softwa...ice-plugin.sit

you should be able to use the drive through disk copy app in os x
anyway burning cds through diskcopy now is a cinch with me. You will find the instructions in those two links above.
