Hi, I want to get some computer speakers for about $60 for my Power Mac MDD. Any suggestions? Thanks. (Money is a MAJOR factor here and I don't want to spend any more than I need to).

Altec Lansing's ATP-3, if they are still in production, are some of the best computer speakers.
It I want your opinion, I'll beat it out of you.

OMG G4ME recommended computer speakers I never thought I'd see the day.

I agree with the either of the suggestions, and personally prefer the Altec Lansing ATP-3s.

If $70 plus shipping isn't too much, CSW SoundWorks are a fantastic value.

Hmmm. I dig the retro microphone/post-apocalyptic Fallout look. Post a review after you've auditioned them!

Guess I'm too late...but perhaps my suggestion might help someone else. I have these AOpen M-810 speakers that cost 50$ Canadian and the sound they generate is amazing!! Maybe it's my G4 that has great built-in sound, but everyone that has heard my speakers agrees that the sound is fantastic....and they are only 50$!! I defenitely recommend them.

I don't know what PMPO stands for, but these speakers are listed as 1kW. Woah.

Yeah which equals into about 8 RMS Watts. When a company lists the wattage in PMPO you know they are **** speakers.

Another vote for Cambridge SoundWorks brand - better than Bose quality sound, at 1/2 the price.

You can also opt for the MicroWorks (the next step up from the SoundWorks line) and get sound that will literally rival your main stereo speakers for $80 "B-Stock"

Cambridge SoundWorks MicroWorks Line

Ask many professional musicians what brand of speakers they like - CSW brand consistently comes out as one of those brand near the top of a very short list.

Cambridge SoundWorks are to the speaker industry what Apple is to the computer industry - highest performance, decently priced, not nearly as known/used as they should be.

Happy hunting!

Another vote for Cambridge SoundWorks. I used to have a set of SoundWorks speakers (my mom has them now) and they're awesome. I now have a $40 set of PCWorks speakers on my TV -- they're not as good as the SoundWorks or MicroWorks sets, but by no means bad, and certainly some of the best speakers you can get for that price.

P.S. I now use two sets of Jamo CS-5 speakers... but they're a bit over your budget (by nearly an order of magnitude, for both sets).

Very true indeed.

PMPO is Peak Maximum Power Output, and is basically the peak momentary power - a transient output. RMS is Root Mean Square power, and is essentially consistent power output.
