I'm looking at adding memory to my 12" 867MHz Powerbook, looking at the specs and visiting some memory suppliers websites, the max amount of memory I can add would be a 512mb stick, however when visiting KINGSTONS website and using their memory configurator, they suggest I can add a 1gb stick, does anyone have any experience of whether this is possible?

Adding 1 GB would be fine. At the time that the 867 was released, I don't belive any 1GB sticks that were compatible were out yet. So all you could possibly add was 512mb. Lots of people are running 1.25GB just fine.

I've got a 1 GB stick inside my 12" 867 Mhz right now.
Official Apple documents state you can only put a 512 MB chip in the slot because that was the highest capacity chip in the market at the time of the Rev A 12" release date.
Apple just never "officially" updated their documentation to read that it can take it.
Get it now!

Are you suggesting that Rev. A 12" Powerbooks can handle more than 640mb of DDR? Holy moses. If that's the case... I swear you people have been holding out on me.
But, 1.25gb is impossible. Rev. A 12" Powerbooks only have 128mb built in. Are you absolutely positive that they can handle 1.12gb?

Yes...it's no secret that the Rev A 12" could handle 1.12gb of RAM. I've seen quite a few sig's showing this so there are a few MacNNers that are using this configuration and nobodies mentioned that it has caused problems. Even the 800MHz iBook G4's are able to handle a 1gig stick, and they're almost identical to the specs of a Rev A 12" PB.

I had a 512MB stick in for ages and then talking to the folks in the local Apple store they mentioned they'd upgraded one of their old Rev.A 12" to 1.12GB - as I was seeing lots of memory contention issues with VirtualPC I jumped at the chance and it's been great
OSX really does appreciate RAM above 512MB - more even than WinXP in terms of incremental benefit.
It seems that it's common knowledge, but only in certain circles - I've come across people saying that the rev.As can't possible go about 640MB (have had people in other forums quite abusive about the fact my sig was lying !) so I guess it's safe to assume a lot of people are still going by the Apple specs which haven't been updated
