Well I figured I would let you guys know that I returned my iMac. Luckily I was within the return period. $169 restocking fee... Oh well. I will be sure to post new pictures of the new iMac when I get it. It has two ram slots so I will be sure to post pictures of those. One thing that sucks is that I now have to sell my 2GB chip that I bought. Hopefully it will be worth it

I hope you took some xBench numbers to compare with when you get the new beast. I'd like to see somebody back up Steve's 2-3x faster comment.

I have just done the exact same thing, I have confirmed it, and am taking my 9 day old 17" back to john lewis on sunday. They cant exchange it for the new one, as they dont have it in stock yet, so i will order it from the apple store.

jaydon34, yes the iMac now takes the fastest DDR2 available (667 i think), but it is now also laptop RAM, - same performance as equivalent speed desktop RAM, just half the length. I too have a 1 gig stick of DDR2 I bought to put in my imac which I will now have to get rid of somehow. Oh well, at least I will have an intel !

Yes its sligtly more expensive, but with the last version of the PPC iMac, 512MB of RAM was integrated into the motherboard, and there was only one slot for expandability, meaning that to get 2.5 GB RAM users had to pay a fortune for a 2 gig stick. Now the iMac has no built in RAM (im guessing this is due to it not being available with intel) but does have two RAM slots, alowing for less (2 gig) but more flexible RAM options

I've been lurking here for a while and I'm learning some good things from ya'll so I thought I'd post my apples. I began using a Mac since the Mac II was new and we used to use MacDraw and MacPaint and I still have a fully functional Mac SE. It's cool to see you guys' machines and set ups. Thanx

*15" G4 PowerBook 1.5Ghz
*20" iMac 1.8Ghz with Black Mactallic cover
*Logitech wireless keyboard & mouse
*Linksys Wireless Router and both wirelessly connected to each other
*Technics receiver, Kenwood Cassette Deck connected to iMac
*3 Gargoyles standing watch against evilness

Here is my Mac SE. I can't believe it runs like a champ still after all these years.
I also have a G3 desktop and G4 not pictured

Nice setup dude. Love the fact you still use the Mac SE!

Btw, to any mods who may be reading, why cant the imac forum have this thread as a sticky? The powermac forum does, and that way, people dont forget about this thread, and hopefully it could be updated more.

My modest new setup, nothing flash, and i will be looking to add to it in the near future.
External firewire dvd burner.
Epson R200 printer.
Netgear wireless router, and a stupid microsoft optical mouse, which will be replaced soon.

Thank you
Thomas from the UK

Awesome Transformers poster.

I used to have a large collection of the original die cast Transformers toys from the 70s. My mother unwittingly threw the entire collection out when she deemed I was too old for them. As fate would have it, they're now quite valuable...

Thanks mom.

It's actions like that which keep people from visiting their parents on holidays.

Yeah a that is a better Idea and the left over money that I have from not getting the macbookpro. I could use to buy a flat screen for my Pc and fit both the imac and pc on the same desk.

Here are some pictures of my new setup. I changed from using a PowerBook as my main machine hooked up to my Cinema Display to using a 17" iMac and the Cinema Display.

Notes on everything in the picture and larger sizes are here.

g2h0, we have the same speaks, but I had no idea that the covers came of the front of them. I got them from a friend with no box/info on them at all, you've made everything on my desk match now. No more black speakers with a silver pbook.

hey there,

i have the directivo hooked up via an ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0. I chose that device because it was very cheap (on sale for 50 bucks at Best Buy) and was advertised as having no lag meaning i could hook a game system up to it since most of el gato's products have a slight delay making gaming impossible.

I use El Gato's eyetv software

It works very well but ATI's hardware is cheap and has blown out twice on me, but they have replaced them so far.
