Has this been done? We know the QS 733 is a tad (5-10%) slower than the old 733, but has anyone purchased a Pioneer superdrive and dropped it into the base PowerMac and tried to burn DVDs?
Does the base 733 come with iDVD even though it doesn't have a superdrive?
Probably not, but can anyone confirm it?

Yes. A Pioneer branded DVR-A03 works in a QS-733. The OS (9.2 and X.12) recognize the drive as a superdrive (DVR-103). This drive does work with iDVD (1 and 2).
iDVD 1 was installed on my hard drive and is also included on the restore discs. You can upgrade to iDVD 2 for $19.95 from Apple.
I have yet to burn a coaster.

BTW, the $20 for iDVD2 is really worth it. First off, they send you a DVD and not a CD. Second, it's a DVD because you get about 1GB of themes and stuff to use in iDVD2.

Am I correct in assuming that the QS 733 doesn't come with iDVD?
Am I also correct that iDVD2 is a full version and iDVD is not required to already own?

i'm not sure, i would assume iDVD only comes on QS's that have the apple superdrive installed.
yes, that's correct. you don't need iDVD to run iDVD2. it's a complete application in itself, not really an 'upgrade'.

Can you run a superdrive and iDVD2 on a Sawtooth 400?

Yes, and you shouldn't have to turn down the burn speed. I think the superdrive is only an 8x DVD burner.
