I realize you can drag applications to the dock to "dock" them for easy access. Is there the ability to "dock" folders?

Yes. I drag a folder in there and use it for a menu purpose. All my aliases to various programs sorted. Left clicking the folder opens it in the finder. Right clicking allows you to see all the files, and navigate the folders.

Yup. I dock my Applications folder, as a perfect replacement for the Apple Menu.

Just one catch. You know that dividing line in the Dock between the apps and the Trash? Folders go on the same side of that line as the Trash (right if your Dock is horizontal, under if it's vertical).
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

How do you "right" click with an iBook Mouse Pad to see the contents of the folder in the Dock? I tried Option, Control et al. to no avail. All I get is "Open Folder in Window".

Just keep the button held down and wait.

Okay, again I managed to dock a folder with items in it. But, I've tried holding Ctrl + Click on Folder and all I get is "Show in Finder". I've tried Option, Command, everything. I'm running 10.1.5 on an iBook. What's the deal here?

I don't know what system you're on, but on my DVI TiBook...

... from a folder (whether I click-hold or ctrl-click-hold) I get a list of the folders contents + the option to "show in finder." ( 10.1.5 )

you're inadvertently doing something funky.

Control click immediately shows the contents of the folder.

Do you have anything *in* the folder?

You'll get a menu that looks like this:

The server made a boo boo. (403)

I keep my drive in the dock. Hardly ever open a Finder window. Control-clicking and clicking-and-holding works for me.

It sounds like the folder is empty.

It seems to be a 10.1.5 issue. I just upgraded to 10.2. All I have to do now is to click and hold the mouse button over the folder. The contents of the folder pops up.

Ctrl-Click will open the folder in a pop up list from the dock, and will keep it open until you click somewhere else. It makes it a lot easier to navigate a popped up list of folder contents, as you don't have to keep the mouse pushed down.

Very nice.

If you just click and hold, it does the same thing, but as soon as you let go...boom the window disappears.
