my system mysteriously crashes when i click directly into the folders on the hard drive to find a file. it seems to be OK when i am simply opening from with an app. i know it's probably a system extension problem, as i've had to make some changes there recently, but i don't know which yet. help!

also, my system (9.0.1 on an ancient Power Tower 233Mgz clone) now crashes if the auto-hd-cataloguing FindIt close-down by Iomega system extension is on. i now can't use it, and i thought (??) it was a good thing to do with your system.

should i be doing some other maintenance on my system? i've done the zap the PRAM, etc.

thanks.

Did you just zap the pram? Try trashing the prefenrences, zap the pram, and rebuild the desktop.

Thanks, will try. It's funny, I just went my system folder, to check out preferences folder, while online (AOL using IE to browse here) and it crashed...again. It might be a conflict between browser and finder.

Will trashing my prefs delete anything important to my apps? I have loads of app. prefs in there.
