I am looking to pick one up for my lady tonight.
I am looking to get a basic 15 inch model for her in glossy screen.

I am looking to get the top of the line 17 inch with 2.6ghz, 200gb 7200rpm hdd, glossy high def screen.

Any thoughts?

I am pretty excited because we recently got 3 ipod nanos and a 24inch imac.

I just got a 13 white macbook earlier this month to go with my fiance's 17 pro book. We love both of them and use them for different things. I use mine for mobility and she uses her's for graphics. 17 is nice for working on a desk.

Just ordered mine last night. It's supposed to come in between the 29th of this month and the 4th of March.

I ordered the 2.4 GHz MBP with the 250 GB hard drive. Matte screen.

Why the 2.6? It's not worth the extra $250. You won't notice much of a difference. A better choice would be to go for 4 GB of RAM. Otherwise, sweet.

I took advantage of the hardware refresh to pick up a refurbished 'yesterday's generation' 15" MacBook Pro. A machine that I would have paid $2200 for two days ago, cost me $1600.

My gf walked out the door with a new baseline MBP (2.4ghz/256mb gpu) yesterday, before the store was supposed to be allowed to sell them.

I had gone to the store earlier in the day and talked to a guy who said they had the new ones in stock and that I could come back later with my gf to make the purchase. Came back later and halfway through ringing us up, the manager stepped in and notified the employee that they were not supposed to sell them until the next day (today). They went to the backroom and 10 minutes later the guy helping us came out and let us know that he got the greenlight to discreetly sell us one

She loves it, the pinch and swipe/rotate trackpad features are awesome. And to confirm what people have already said, there is no increase in size of the trackpad.

I am envious and am thinking about getting one now.

they were ok to sell them yesturday. they told me about them and had them in the local store here in charlotte at about 1pm.
the macbook pro "ultimate" is a different story.
they say that they will have them friday, saturday or tuesday.
I am really looking forward to getting it, though it is not a huge jump in performance.
I will be getting 2 i hope
Any thoughts or notes from anyone that have the new ones now?
Has anyone actually got the ones with the 2.6, 200gb 7200 rpm HDD yet?
Any comparison thoughts?

The thought of walking out of an Apple store with 2 brand new computers is almost too much to handle. I would probably just have an aneurism and die without ever getting to use them .

I do not want the 2.6, I actually want the 2.5 because there is not that big of a difference in the processor to charge $250.
The stores unfortunately only get the high def screens and faster hard drives with 2.6 processor.
The fastest that I can get it is going into the store.

I sooooo agree with you there.
When I left with the iMac 24inch, I feel so great.
It appears that Time Capsule will be there too.
So I am looking forward to leaving with all of that stuff.

Here's an odd thing. My new MBP arrived today, it's gorgeous! But there's no little adapter for the plug. You know the little thing with the prongs that slides onto the corner of the plug? For when you don't want to drag around both halves of the power cable.

Is that standard on MBP's? Do they draw a lot more power than the MacBooks? Or do I need to bug Apple to send me a one?

So when do we get gesture supported porn interactive games?

My wife and I are just about ready to pull the trigger on a MBP 2.4 w/matte.
I'd go with the 2.6 w/glossy, but she doesn't want the glossy or to spend the extra $$$. Instead we'll get a 23" Dell monitor, 4gb RAM and some other goodies.

My first Mac and first laptop, I sure hope I like the power and the matte.

You guys are nice, getting your significant others brand new Macs. I'm getting my girlfriend into them as well and maybe one day I will get her one.

I remember walking out of the Mac store with my Macbook. That was the longest ride home in my entire life, and I live a maximum of 5 min away from the Mac store. I even get excited when I see other people walking around with new Macs in the mall.

Yeah, I kind of go into "nerd-overload" mode is I see a Mac out in public somewhere. My life would be destroyed if I lives 5 minutes form an Apple store.

I'm headed for one in about a week or so... i dont really mind the lack of design update... i still think its sexy...

at least this is the way i'm leaning... I have never in my life walked into a store and walked out with a computer... i imagine its a pretty good feeling.
looking forward to it... (always bought online or by phone before).

I walked out of the store last night with the intro 15 inch MBP for the lady.
for the most part things are going well, but the Time Machine restore is doing wonky things going from 17 last gen to 15 current gen.

Enjoy! MBPs are all good, just max out the RAM via third party like OWC: Find the latest Performance Upgrades, Firewire and USB Hard Drives, SATA, Memory, Laptop Battery, and more at OWC. MBP RAM is easy to install, but a tiny screwdriver is required; easiest is to buy the screwdriver with the RAM.

A single large Firewire800 drive could backup (important) both of your MBPs.

Glossy vs. matte is a matter of personal preference. Personally I (and most other graphic pros) prefer matte to glossy, because glossy displays add contrast and saturation to our images. My MBP is a 17" after many 14-15" Mac laptops and I really like the extra pixels and screen real estate. Except for usage on planes I find zero additional difficulty in transporting the 17' MBP. Modern airframe configurations are so tight at 6'1" tall I found even 15" laptops pretty much unusable.

Yeah, I just ordered the 4 gigs for my laptop.
I did not do it for the lady because I do not think that she is going to see the difference.
the only reason she went with the pro is because of the screensize.
hmmmm....
I ordered mine and got 17 high res, 200gb 7200 rpm hdd, and everything else stock with the exception of the ram i ordered from crucial.
