Who makes the 250 GB drives for Apple G5's? If it is Western Digital, should I order smaller drives if noise is an issue (it is for me)?

Storage review.com's review says that each WD Caviar 250 GB drive adds a significant noise level to the computer and implies we should wait for the quieter fluid-bearing motor 250 GB drives.

Does any other manufacturer make 250 GB SATA drives that are quiet, and are hopefully the ones Apple is using?

The 250GB drive in my G5 was made by Maxtor. Apple System Profiler calls it a Maxtor 6Y250M0. I haven't had any problems with noise from it.

Yeah, mines a maxtor too. I think its quiter than the 160 Seagate when its working. I think it has liquid bearings too. Overall I'm very happy with it.

I would recommend the 160 seagate anyway, as it uses a native sata connection. The maxtor and wd 250gb uses a convertor, if that's the models apple is using for the 250gb. It's debatable, but many believe the converter diminishes performances.
