Is anyone using a command line version of Seti on OS X? If so how much faster is it?

I have been using the command line version for Windows and it appears to process units much faster.

It may be slightly faster, I've never really benchmarked it.
It's usually better to run CLI though, as it's always running, and runs when logged out, and, with proper scripting, runs again when the computer is rebooted, right away.

Windows CLI is much faster then windows screensaver, it's not nearly as profound on the mac side, but graphics do take proc power, on either platform.

I run it on 2 G4 450's and a dual gig. I went from and avg. of 14 hrs per on the Screen saver to ~12 hrs. on the 450's.

The dual gig went from 7-1/2 to 8 hours to around 6-1/2 to 7.

There is definitely some speedup to running the CLI. I'd say 10-15 percent, but it's hard to judge, since the W/U's vary in size. If you've got two processors, you can run two clients at once, too, and get almost double the output.

How do you set it up to run two clients?

Make a second folder in apps (name it something like seti2) with another copy of the client in it, then run it in a seperate terminal window.

I use SETI Docling to control my CLI clients. It works great, and handles all the terminal stuff for you. It can configure 2 clients as well.

Here is the link for SETI Dockling. I also use it. A very slick little app that allows you to monitor progress while managing one or two instances of SETI CLI client.

Thanks for the info. I now wish I had the money for a dual processor tower.
