You're welcome to buy me a DS considering I don't own one... Although I'd take a PSP too until the DS gets organizer support.

I'm sure you don't...because people that don't own the competing product sit in a thread about it and bash it, right?

Right. Because people who don't own either product and therefore really have no commitment to either side should be tarred and feathered when they voice their opinion on one of the said products product and its future.

I don't own a DS because the games on it suck. Happy? I also am not buying a PSP because the games on it suck, and additionally, I still think Nintendo will win in the end.

Although obviously I have no idea what I'm talking about because I'm not anyones fanboy.

Been playing with the PSP for a few minutes.

The screen=awesome, gorgeous, even had women eeking at it. Smudges like hell. Seems to be a stuck pixel on mine in the bottom right but not very noticable when the screen is not black.

AC Adapter=WAY too cumbersome - it's a freakin' Playstation AC cable for crissakes! And where it plugs into the unit - too much in the way if you're playing and charging. It should come off the back.

Weight=seems okay - heavier than what I was expecting. The weight is evened out across the unit, though.

Strap=should be black. Looks like a white Hello Kitty cat collar.

Connectivity=Super easy to connect to my wireless network to do...uhmmm...nothing. For whatever reason, connecting it to my PC causes Windows Explorer to crash every so often. Connecting it to my Mac, finder shows it no problem but iPSP won't recognize it. WTF? I don't like having to troubleshoot a console!

Only game the local store had was Tony Hawk so I got that. It's so-so. Was hoping to get Wipeout.

All in all, a pretty cool little thing but I'm going back to playing RE4 now...

Looks like myPSP is a dead in the water project and no longer available. Found PSPWare and looks like a pretty decent app from their page - too tired to dig into it now.

I'm happy to see they fixed the problems from my Japanese unit (sticky button, loose UMD latch) and that my U.S. one doesn't have any bad pixels. Wal-Mart had a ton of them in stock and I was the first buyer. Glad that I didn't have to camp out like I did for the PS2 five years ago. SHOS- did you get the regular value pack, or did they bundle the Gretzky game with yours? Some of my Canadian friends are pissed off about the forced Gretzky bundle.

I ordered early enough so I am lucky enough not to have that stupid Gretzky pack.

On the downside i have THREE pixels stuck ON. But they are incredibly hard to see. Not that it matters because I got a EB warranty with it that covers that and they will replace the unit on the spot.

The PSP looks nice and all, but where are all the grade A games? It reminds me of the PS2 launch.

On a side note, how is battery life?

So far the launch titles are leaps and bounds over any other system. I mean 24 games with 5 of them online capable? Awesome.

Pic from the launch party (engadget)... oops!

broken screeninated!

USA launch was mentioned on BBC business news this morning, female presenter had one there "Well this is it, I keep crashing this car though. The guys here all want one, its a waste of money to me though!"

Ah the female perspective .

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Even if that were true, having a better launch than other systems doesn't automatically mean it's a good launch.

He wasn't talking about quantity. He wanted to know where all of the high-quality games are. Instead of always comparing the PSP to another system or touting online capabilities, you should try actually giving him examples of PSP games you think are good (and why). That would actually be helpful.

Ridge Racer is a HQ game. It kicks ass. Sweet analog control, tight racing. Awesome.

Lumines is a sleeper hit. At first I was iffy about it, but now I'm truly addicted to it. My store sold out of them.

Untold Legends and Dynasty Warriors are supposed to be badass. UL sold out also. I have them both but haven't fired them up yet.

Twisted Metal is a TON of fun. I got online last night and just sat there on my couch kicking the sh*t out of players.

Other good titles are Wipeout Pure, NFSU-R, and NFL Street.

I bought more launch games for this system than any other system ever released:

NFSU-R
RR (J)
RR (US)
Namco Museum (J)
NBA (sucks, don't buy it)
Twisted Metal
Lumines (J)
Lumines (US)
Wipeout Pure
Dynasty Warriors
Untold Legends

I want a PSP, but I think my fiance would kick my ass if I bought one a month after she got me the DS.

Besides, we're getting married in 6 months and buying a house in 4. I'm constantly telling her not to be spending money on anything big right now so I would look like a real heal if I came home with one.

Oh well, I'll get one later when there are more games that appeal to me.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Ok, I bought Wipeout Pure. It is soooo awesome. It is like F-Zero but with the weapons of Mario Cart. You can also play against others wirelessly. The music and graphics also look better than a PS2. Actually it looks much better than F-zero.

I love this game.

Sony's hype machine is in effect.

I plan on getting a PSP. I called the Best Buy down the street from me yesterday and they told me that they would go on sale this morning at 8 am. They said they didn't know how many they would get, but anticipated a long line and that they would sell out. Well, I just got off the phone with them and they said they didn't sell out and they have plenty in stock. I asked if they anticipate selling out this afternoon/evening and the guy said no. Looks like I'll be stopping there after work to pick one up.

So it looks as though Generation X are carrying their childhood obsession with videogames into their adult years? Is this what the future holds, a generation balding adults squabbling about little gaming devices?

I am having problems getting my PSP to connect using my Airport base station. I use WPA personal Encryption and say my password is "hotsexybitch" but when I put that into the PSP it says it is wrong. Do I have to enter it differently somehow?

You should change your password to something more realistic .

But seriously, I don't know. I have WEP off and Broadcast SSID off.

picked up mine at lunch...wow. solidly built, beautiful screen, well engineered layout. After playing with the model in the store, I can honestly say I hadn't been so excited to open a new toy since I bought my 1st gen 5 gig ipod...

And the games are awesome too..

^^^ It's b/c the PSP won't do WPA...only WEP. Sucks. Check out the AVSForums, ppl having the same issue. They're having to revert to WEP to get the PSP through. They're hoping a firmware update will let it work.

BTW, I spend months of my life playing Twisted Metal 2 on PS1. I have never, ever played a game like that since. Is Twisted Metal: Head on (note, I LOVEEEEEE online gaming) worth a PSP purchase?

EDIT: I don't know the abbrivations

I just found out the same thing.

Not a big deal for me though as I have 3 routers in my house, one being a Netgear with no WEP and just Mac Hardware filtering. I have the PSP connect to that one and it has the best range with it also.

you probably have to use the "other" password. when you make a password thats WEP protected, it creates an insane string that you need to type in thats like 24 characters long or something. it should show up somewhere on your airport administration pgae.

apple computers will accept the "normal" password. a windows box and im assuming the PSP would need the "other" one.

The great reviews of this game are what made me finally cave and order a PSP from Best Buy. Wipeout was THE game that got me back into gaming, and Wipeout XL was great. I've been salivating over the potential of a good, portable Wipeout game and it looks like my wish has been granted...

Now I just need to figure out a creative way to pay for this thing without feeling guilty about spending all this money. Fortunately I've nagged my fiancee enough about wanting one that she won't guilt trip me for buying it

If I understand correctly, Twisted Metal has Internet multiplayer. Anyone own it and have tried it out? That's the kind of feature Nintendo should have had from the start.

I picked up my youngun's up at lunch too.

All I have to say is wow.

Nintendo is in big trouble if they can get some games produced for this.

I am much more impressed with the PSP than I thought I would be.

I never thought I would really use it as a MP3 player or video device but I am totally into it now.

I downloaded simpsons clips and instead of watching them on the computer I do a quick convert and can watch them on the PSP on the way to work.

Also with a 1 gig card that I can get I will load a ton of MP3's on it, I also encoded movie trailers and other random clips. No it is not to replace my iPod but since it has speakers I can use it as a stereo when out.

Can anyone comment on the battery performance thus far. I heard reports that it isn't that great, but I'm interested in hearing some hands on impressions from people here who have used it.

I've been screwing around with mine all day, playing games for 2 hours, playing videos, transfering songs, setting up the unit, watching the demo disks, watched 30 min of spiderman 2 etc. After all that the battery drained 25%
