I like that I can let my monitors go to sleep via SysPrefs. But what I'd need even more would be the possibility to send my monitors to sleep by the press of a button …

reason:

I like listening to iTunes but then I really don't need the monitors. With CRTs it's not always meaningful to turn them off cause they need quite long to »regenerate« (demagnetise etc).

Is there a possibility? A tool maybe? If not, this would be a feature I'd really like.

P.S: Please don't discuss if you like this or not, I'd really apreciate if you could just help me out.

From my experience, there isn't much of a difference between a sleeping CRT and one that is off. If there is, then you really *should* be turning it off.

I don't know of any way to explicitly put the displays to sleep but not the computer. You could set a shorter display sleep time (e.g. 5 minutes). You could also try to find a screensaver that just puts the monitors to sleep (if it's even possible).
