In the couple of months I've had my Intel-based Mac, virtually all of the software I use on any kind of regular basis has been updated to run native on the new processor.

Other than Microsoft Office (which I actually don't use too often, as Keynote/Pages/Nisus Writer/NeoOffice can read & write MS Office files) and Photoshop Elements 3 (which also doesn't get much use as GraphicConverter is Universal), I see very few non-Universal apps in my Applications folder.

I very occasionally use Acrobat 7 Pro and InDesign CS.

What apps do you MacTel users rely on that isn't yet Intel-optimized??

For what its worth, I use (all Universal and in no particular order):
iTunes, iPhoto, Aperture, Mail, Safari, OmniWeb, Firefox, Toast 7, Popcorn 2, Apple Remote Desktop 3, Keynote, Pages, Preview, iCal, Unison, Apple's Backup, Parallels (fills in for VPC), Osirix, GraphicConverter, NeoOffice 2, OmniGraffle 4, LaTeXiT, iMovie, iDVD, Panic 3, Handbrake, MacTheRipper 3ß, iSquint, DVD2OneX, SuperDuper, Onyx.

Everything is universal, with the exception of the Adobe CS Suite, Macromedia Suite, Microsoft Office and MYOB.

MS Office, Adobe CS2 suite, and Descent 2 are all PPC. Beyond that, everything I have is either Intel or Universal. I'm still amazed how effortless this transition really has been for us users.

ditto. microsoft word is still more responsive than pages even under rosetta. i do pick keynote over powerpoint for creating new presentations, however, but only if i'll be able to present them using keynote itself (as its powerpoint export mildly sucks). photoshop also still gets the nod over flabby, poor-workflow gimp variants.

universal apps i use, in no particular order:

usb overdrive
default folder x
adiumx
icalviewer
synergy
quicksilver
iscrobbler/last.fm
menumeters
adobe lightroom beta! <-- rawks
flip4mac, native at long last
fugu
keyword assistant, native in beta
vlc
parallels desktop
isquint

and pester. i recompiled as a universal binary from source as it hadn't been updated in a while.

Don't know and don't care. As long as it runs ok, doesn't make a bit (pun intended) of difference to me.

Besides, with a 2ghz Core Duo BlackBook, even the PowerPC apps run faster than on any of my older Macs.

the only non-universal app i use regularly is Fireworks. I use MTR sometimes, Flash every once in a while, Word just to view docs if TextEdit or Pages can't handle it, and Excel rarely just to view stuff. Oh yeah, Studiometry also, but I've since moved to iRatchet since it's universal and not RealBasic, but I still have to open it up since I haven't migrated all the data yet... it used exorbitant amounts of ram and cpu on PPC, so it's pretty brutal under Rosetta.

Office and Warcraft III are by far the most used PPC apps.

The only others even on my hd are Emusic's download manager, Photoshop (CS), and Wenlin 3, still one of the best Chinese programs.

I think it's gone very well. I'm of course looking forward to the Universal version of Office (though with no VB it's going to be hell to bring files home from work) but the only program that seriously lags in this situation is...

WARCRAFT.

As the only game I ever really play (save pac-man in the dashboard) it's hard to deal with the difference... especially compared to Windows...

Highlight the application with your cursor and 'GetInfo' . In the GetInfo window look at the General/Kind and it will say Universal.
