Amazon Mechanical Turk
This is weird. But it could work. Getting average people to use their home computers and satellite imaging to search for the missing flyer.

I was wondering about that myself. I live in a rural area and the google earth and other satellite imagery I've looked at of my place is so low resolution that you could not even make out my house, road, barns or anything else, much less a crashed airplane.

How is this going to work? The google map for my house still doesn't show a nearby building that went up three years ago. And as far as resolution, you can't identify my storage shed.
The other interesting thing is the number of other plane wrecks, some decades old, that have been found.

There is no way in hell I would have departed at night into high terrain in an 8AC.
I'd still be uncomfortable in an IFR equipped 182.
And I have hundreds of mountain flying hours.

After opening the .kml file and flying to the coordinates they provide, I get two things:
- Big red "X"s where the images should be, and
- GoogleEarth freezes as it tries to load the missing images. Have to force-quit.

180= Cessna 182, a single engine Instrument Flight Certified aircraft. Generally has a 230hp engine.
High terrain is mountains. The new 182s have a terrian map on the display.

In a 130H on a transport flight from Texas to Arkansas.
My loadmaster saw it first. I radioed Dallas Center and asked if they had traffic near me.
I got a negative.

A bright glowing cigar about 50 feet long.
It started about 2 miles away and we got within 300 feet of it.
It was no weather balloon. It had controlled flight and accelerated past the Herc.
My loadmaster went drinking after we landed in Arkansas.
I let him have the rest of the afternoon off.
