I'm not sure how that's relevant. I'm getting the inclination that you still believe you're the reason I owned an SVT, even though I had a Contour before I even joined these boards.

And I'm still waiting for that mountain of evidence proving that I know nothing about cars.

That came off wrong. I just meant since you drive an EFI Honda Accord, you probably don't really ever do much maintenance, you just drive it. Right? Cool if you like learning though. I just meant since you drive what most people call an appliance that you aren't really into wrenching yourself, because you don't need to.

Your quote about the unrelability of mid 90s audis is one such example. Audi didn't get especially horrible until VAG did the same, which was in the LATE 90s. The reason that german cars suffered in this time period was due to the influx of premium japanese cars, with more gadgets than the germans. In response, germans rushed things to production, cut corners, and added even more gadgets to compete. This is what led to such horribly unreliable pieces of crap such as the A4/S4.

I figured as much. But since it has a 10-speed `transmission,' I reckon it's a race bike, is it?

I thought we had already established that my comment was trolling, and not indicative of my actual knowledge. Still waiting.

Please stop calling it VAG. It's VW AG. Looks much less sexual that way.

As for all the people bashing diesels: you really have no clue about modern diesels. As a car enthousiast it pains me to say that a diesel is the only sensible choice for daily driving in Europe these days. Petrol engines cost you your first born in taxes and fuel (especially where I live, now wonder 80% of the population drives a diesel).
Lame. Get a Prius, LESS comsumption, WAY LESS CO2 gram emissions per kilometer than your lovely Turbo Diesel, less taxes. Silent.

Average Fuel Consumption
A3 TDI 170 5,2 l/100 Km.
Prius 3,9 l/100 Km.

CO2 emissions
A3 139 gr/Km.
Prius 89 gr/Km.

You get reductions in the purchase price and the Prius pays less taxes.

That competition has moved up, this :

and the BMW 123d, both on 204hp, 2.1 and 2.0l diesel engines
No surprise as BMW and Mercedes-Benz are better makers than Audi. It's been the same all along.

When it comes to the point where those figures are quoted instead of 0-60, top speed, BHP and lbs/ft, it's time to start killing people for being lame.

A RWD has more traction than a FWD Audi and it is sportier.

Except when the engine is in front (as in BMWs and Mercedes'), and you've got snow.

Then a RWD has NO traction, though I guess that makes it "sportier".

RWD is much better for racing, but as far as snow traction goes FWD kicks its ass.

I put winter tires on my RWD car and I do fine in the snow we get here (anywhere up to 3-4").

That may be, but I can drive any FWD car with any tires up to 6" of snow just fine. My truck, with Ice and Snow tires, not in 4WD can be...interesting to drive in snow.

One of the best cars I've driven in the snow was a stock Chevy Cavalier with regular radials. We were plowing it through 2 feet of snow, like that ship that cracks the ice. Fantastic little car for crap weather.

It was probably an AWD 3 series too... here everyone has 325 or 328xis, but I see them stuck ALL the time.

Grand Cherokee's are SUVs, and thus destroy the precious environment, while Audi's are cars, and save the environment.

Audi have SUVs, which are just as gas-guzzling as anything else (besides TDI, but the Grand Cherokee has CDI). Also, may I suggest taking a gander at this.
