Of course, I'm the one who talks about my band all the time, and don't play.

I've decided it would be good to learn an instrument, and settled on piano. I figure it will give me the best handle on theory, which I'm more interested in than actually playing well.

On top of it, one of the people in the band is a piano teacher... I just haven't gotten around to it.

My grade school was heavily into providing an environment for people to learn instruments. They gave violin lessons when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. That didn't work out well. When I was in 8th grade they started a school band, and I played baritone. Not because I had any affection for the instrument, but as the big, fat kid, the band leader thought I could manage its size, and he practically begged me to play it. In retrospect, I wish I had demanded to play piccolo or something, so I could look ridiculously out of place sitting with all the 4th and 5th grade girls.

One quick thing about the violin lessons which really irritated me once I put it all together only a few years ago. As I said, they didn't work out. I just wasn't really interested. However, I what I remember most was during the 10 minute break I got, I'd rush over to the piano and start banging on it... happy as a pig in shit.

Maybe violin teacher lady should have passed that along to my parents.

Just curious about other MacNN members musical talents and thought it would be a good topic for discussion.

I am not what you would call an accomplished musician, but I play some decent acoustic and electric blues and am learning harmonica. I have been messing around with music for years, but I just recently started getting more serious about it.
