Chances are very good that it would fit. I've had my Cube apart several times and noticed the DVD drive is actually a notebook style(44pin IDE) and not a desktop style (40pin IDE). Apple attached a small PCB adapter board to the drive to split it into a normal desktop style 40pin IDE and 4pin power cable. The same discussion was made back when Apple started shipping Ti Powerbooks with combo drives (DVD/CDrw). However, those drives never became available 3rd party. Apple only offered them as a $300 upgrade to older Ti Powerbook owners.

One minor incompatibility - though it probably doesn't apply to most Mac users. I've been using round 3" mini CDr and CDrw discs ever since owning a slot load iMacDV SE. While Apple has supported them in slot load iMacs, Cubes, and Ti Powerbooks with DVD and CDrw drives... they are specifically NOT supported in PowerBooks with Combo drives and Superdrives. However, it would be worth giving up the mini-CDs to get an internal Superdrive for my Cube! If only we could buy them.....joe

Thats GOOD news!

my concerns are, the superdrive is just a little bit too long

and to get one, the magic word is (sometimes) "repair" - find an official apple dealer with repair service, sometime youre lucky and they sell you one...- we have to wait - costs is another no-go argument ;-))

if you moded the cube case, you could fit a 5 1/4 drive in their (a lot cheeper than the PB drive) also if your looking for such a place to obtain the powerbook drive it most likely have to be an apple specialist (a ranking in apple's retailer/service centers)

Umm, I didn't say a slot loading 5 1/4, you would have to mod the case to make it work.

exactly my point:

i don't want to modify the case, i want to modify the inerts - a cube is a cube, not a box, case, brick or somethin'

i wait for the real specs and will talk to my prefered dealer

btw: has anyone this nice piece of sortware dvd enabler? for using pioneer04 OUTSIDE (firewired) an apple
