I'm waiting for a new imac and am wondering if nothing is announced at WWDC then when and where is the next event to be held?

MWSF in January.

But Apple routinely releases hardware at non-show 'special events', or sometimes just a press release without an event.

They almost always have one in September or October but normally it is just iPod updates.

I don't know. That wasn't the question.

As it is, it's hardly important, since products have been for the past few years almost always released either silently, or with special media events, to avoid accusations of making their stock too easy to manipulate by sticking to fixed release dates.

MacWorld Paris has turned into an event for manufacturers of Mac and iPod accessories. Apple hasn't released anything there for a while , but normally a slew of other companies releases some cool stuff. Last year Harmon Kardon came out with a ton of iPod stuff as well as JBL and iSkin.
