It seems that AT&T is forcing me to switch to a Nokia 6310i phone. Well, i've chosen it among the gsm phones. Anyway Can I use this to get my laptop online thru bluetooth? Any instructions on how to would help.

Oh oh. had problems with the 6310i before, apparently Nokia did some strane non standards complient Bluetooth implementation in the phone. You might be able to get online but I'd say goodbye to iSync. I had the experience, now using a T610....

Yeah, the T610/630 are the best for bluetoothing to Powerbooks.

I have a car kit that perfectly matches my phone now and the 6310i. If i went with a different phone it would cost me serious cash to swap out the car kit i now have installed.


I guess i could look at the T610 i dont really care if isync works infact i think it would be kind of annoying if everyone in my phone was now in my address book and vice versa

There's nothing wrong with the 6310i (except for the bluesnarfing vuln.) - You can use it as a bluetooth modem no problem.

It will not be supported by iSync - because it does not have all the required features (e.g. a Unique ID for contacts)

Google for Bluetooth modem and Mac os x and you should get some helpful docs.

You can use the Nokia 6310i as
- CSD modem,
- HSCSD modem and
- GPRS modem.

For this you need modem scripts, which you write yourself or you use existing scripts from other people
or you use an application, which handles everything for you.
I personally prefer the more 'manual' solution with the scripts.

Nokia 6310i and iSync are incompatible,
but address book works well for sending and receiving SMS messages and for dialing outgoing and showing incoming calls via Nokia 6310i.
The only problem is, that you have to reconnect with the phone again after powerbook wakes up from sleep (with the bluetooth connect/disconnect button in address book).
Even the last bluetooth firmware update from Apple doesn't fix this problem.
If someone has a solution for this problem, I'm very interested, please post here or send me PM.

For overall bluetooth stability between Mac and phone it is important to have the newest Firmware of Nokia 6310i. Check version with '*#0000#'.
V5.50 or V5.51 are the most actual versions.
