Autodesk has announced that its first major update for
Smoke 2013, Extension 1, will go live on May 29th. The update adds two main features, beginning with support for Blackmagic video IO devices including the DeckLink, UltraStudio, and Intensity lines. The other is a new Trim View, accompanied by a set of dynamic trimming tools which should allow for faster editing.
Support has also been added for SonyRAW footage from F5 and F55 cameras. Under the hood Autodesk has improved conform workflow with Final Cut Pro X, providing better translation of speed changes and the ability to conform ARRI Alexa ProRes files. Performance improvements have sped up navigating large data sets in MediaHub, as well as 3D compositing in Action. Finally, enhanced feedback systems should offer improved tracking of background processes, monitor renders, and identify errors.
Extension 1 will be a free download for people with an active Autodesk Subscription. Smoke is typically $3,495 new; Subscription access costs $675. A free 30-day trial of Smoke is also available.
