I believe Todd took some of these message boards to court, including this one. The case was eventually dismissed.

Yes, he tried to pull that stunt but failed miserably.
Do an 'NN search for "morris powerbook" and you'll find quite a few threads on this. Very good reads looking back on them.

That should give him plenty of time to think about what he did.

So, if I understand this correctly, he deceived people on several levels, no?
This isn't a simple case of him doing presales then not having the goods?
A guy I knew, Chris Chong Kim, ran Calvinsauctions on eBay and got screwed royally. He would make a deal with MacMall to buy a certain amount of laptops (Macs mostly) for a certain price - buying in bulk netted (SUPPOSEDLY) a big discount.
So, he'd presell on eBay and then order through MacMall.
Everything was fine until one day MacMall said that they didn't have the order in stock. It was delayed by 3 weeks. People started complaining. Filing police reports. The whole thing snowballed. His intentions were good, but he was convicted of federal fraud and went to prison for 18 months. I will say that his was a case where he intended to do the right thing and it got out of hand.
However, this guy, Todd Morris, is an outright scam artist apparently.
Question: What makes people think that they can get away with this crap? Seriously?
Maybe the guy IS insane?

The only doubt about his claims that I would have is, if he had contracts or agreeements with MacMall, then he could have presented them in court.
