Hi all,

I am totally alien to machintosh platforms because i have been using windows platform for the past 10 years +.

Last year bought a ibook, and have not been doing any upgrading besides the "software updates" throught the apple icon on the top left hand corner of the screen.

Can anyone tell me what is the fuss about updating the OS for machintosh ??

And by the way, my OS is stil 9.0.4, unchanged from the first day i bought until now. Should i update to 9.1 and follow by 9.2.1 ???

Thank you very much !!!

Hi phantom,

My country is a land of windows, hard to find machintosh users,
and i also do not have any friends using machintosh platform.
Therefore, I am unable to get from my friends in any case...

Is it possible to download the OS updates for 9.1 from the internet then download again the update for 9.2.4. Will this be the same as updating my present platform of OS 9.0.4 to 9.2.4 ???

I mean, is that the correct way to do it ??

And by the way, updating to 9.2.4 , will it suck up alot of RAM ??

Thank you very much.

First, their is no such thing OS 9.2.4.
It is version 9.2.1

Second if you are running 9.0.4 you will not use any more RAM with 9.2.1 and will not SEE anything different. 9.2.1 just has bug fixes and low level changes.

You can dowload the update from Apple's web site.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

To all,

Firstly, I am currently at 9.0.4. To update to 9.2.1 , i need to download the updates for 9.1 , then i download the updates for 9.2.1 and install before i can successfully update to 9.2.1. Is that the correct way to do it ??

Secondly, when i downloaded updates for 9.1 I tried to run the installation, but it prompts me to boot from CD, as i have already downloaded the language kits. What went wrong ??
And if i am to boot from disk, how do i install the 9.1 updates ??

Thanks a million for explaining to a mac newbie.
Can email me when u are bored or have lots of time if the explanation is going to be very long.

Ethan.

I don't think that there is much difference between 9.1 and 9.2. Just update to 9.1 if you're not using OSX. However, if you're using or planning to use X.1, 9.2 is an absolute necessity. In classic mode in X, 9.2 is a lot stabler.

Just make sure that you select Standard MacOS9 on Extention Manager before doing any upgrading.
