realplayer should do it ethan.
www.realplayer.com

there is a mac version available for download from that site. Also windows media player for mac should work, but ive had no end of trouble with that product. It seems very buggy.

Check out those other links provided too. With avi, the compression technology changes all the time, and its important to have the latest codecs to play it.
MacBook Alu, 13", 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, 256MB video
G5 Imac, 17", 1.9Ghz, 1.5GB RAM, 128MB video, built in isight, airport and bluetooth
Indigo iBook, 366mhz; 320MB RAM; CD; FW; Airport

hi all ... thanks for the prompt response....

i have the windows media player 7 for mac ...
and also real player basic 8 ....
both seems to be unable to run the file ...

error message that " the required compressor could not be found "
when i use quicktime to run it ...

when i use Windows media player ....
there is only the sound and no pictures appear....

and nothin happens for the real player ...

will try out again .. and be back for the solution if i happen to come across any ...

issit possible that the file i downloaded is incomplete or corrupted that leads to this problem ??

thanks

I am sure I have been able to run "real" avi files using QT. I say "real" because there was an instance where I could not run a couple of them and after some looking found they weren't really avi files at all. They just had .avi written after the file name.

Try this
http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0...lst-7-3.892955

It converts windows avi to quicktime movies. I have never tried it.
