Verizon will launch a $100 discount on the iPhone 5 sometime in mid-May, evleaks claims. No other information on the sale is available, such as how long it might last and who will be eligible. The rumor may have some merit, however, as Verizon's competitors have made similar efforts.

Sprint, for instance, is currently offering a $100 discount for new iPhone buyers switching from other carriers. T-Mobile is likewise selling the iPhone 5 for as little as $99, though in reality buyers are expected to finance the rest of the phone's unlocked cost over a set period. The carriers may be trying to reinvigorate iPhone sales, which while still healthy are likely coming under pressure from high-profile Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One.

Another reason might be that the iPhone 5 remains a huge draw and that others offering it at a discount is a threat to Verizon customer base who may switch rather than getting a cheaper Android phone. In other words, iPhone remains the reason a customer may switch and the lack of stickiness of Android phones places these customers at increased risk of loss.

Now if Verizon would offer a FAMILY DATA PLAN that would be great.

Well, what do you know, Verizon has a SHARE EVERYTHING PLAN. 4 Phones in the Family...No real savings when you need 6-8 GB.
