CoSoSys, a provider of cross-platform data loss prevention, device control and mobile device management tools, has released an update for its Endpoint Protector 4 platform. Endpoint Protect v.4.4.0.3 aims to provide IT administrators with improved content-aware protection policies in respects to management as well as reporting. The new version includes enhancements for the mobile device management module that allows for more advanced actions, to better secure mobile devices across multiple operating systems, which includes OS X, iOS and Android.

IT administrators can create filters for data being shared and uploaded on the cloud or transferred by Outlook or Skype, and its Regular Expressions feature -- which allows IT administrators to define patterns for filtering criteria -- has also been added as part of the content-aware protection suite. Pricing is dependent upon the number of devices.

Macs are enrolled the same way as iOS devices are, and features like Passcode Setting, File Vault 2 Full Disk Encryption, control of VPN, Mail, and Wi-Fi, and as well as other features are now available for MacBooks and iMacs. Regarding Android platforms, Endpoint Protector v. 4.4.0.3 adds Mobile Application Management. Other actions in the release include enabling encryption, activating and deactivating Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and the camera, and visualizing/editing calendar events. Pricing again varies upon the amount of devices one wishes to enable Endpoint Protector 4 on.

iRing iOS motion controller now available

Dual-sided motion controller ring iRing is now available for use with iOS devices. The wearable device -- used either alone or as a pair -- can open apps (including iRing FX/Controller or iRing Music Maker apps), and make music or control effects by waving one's hands. The rings feature identifiable patterns that are picked up by the camera on the corresponding iOS device, and are converted to precise positioning information on an XYZ axis via advanced pattern-recognition algorithms. Up to six parameters can be simultaneously controlled. An SDK and free licensing program for incorporating into developers' apps is available. The iRing is priced at $25 in white, grey, and green.
