I know that Apple says that the DVD media they sell is on a 45 day backorder, so what are the other options?
The title of this product says for data storage, is there any reason why this would not work for DVD-Video? http://store.yahoo.com/meritline/ritdvdvdrec.html
anyone with a superdrive, have you used something other than Apple's Media? And, does Apple's media have a name on it? Does it say Apple, someone else?

I am not sure if these are compatible. I have an older G4 with the DVD-RAM drive and I was told that the 5pack of DVD-R's that Apple is selling are not compatible with my DVD-RAM drive. No one I have talked to seems to be able to tell me what the difference is and how to find DVD-RAM discs. *sigh*
Best of luck.

DVD-R and DVD-RAM and not the same thing. DVD-RAM only works in other DVD-RAM drives, and thus is very limited. DVD-R is the new industry standard for consumer writeable media that can be played in and DVD drive.
I was able to find some DVD-R media for sale at Outpost.com. However there are some typos since they refer to the discs as DVD-RAM at least once on that page. That is incorrect, the discs are in fact DVD-R.

When I looked at their info, they claim it's "Compatible format for DVD-ROM master disc production", which would make it DVD-R authoring, which is INCOMPATIBLE with the superdrive. You want DVD-R general, which if Apple sells for about $10, you should be able to find for between $5-7. It might be hard to find DVD-R general discs since the first burners that use them just got shipped by apple.

CRAP! I'll try to cancel my order.
I did find some details on media that are key here: http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/multime...ring_media.pdf
DVD Media FAQ: http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/multime.../dvd-r_faq.htm
The DVR-103 (SuperDrive can only write to 4.7GB "General" media. General can only record with a 650nm recording sensitivity wavelength, whereas "Authoring" can only write with a 635nm recording sensitivity wavelength. The only other drive they make that supports the 650nm recording is the DVR-2000 (component DVD Recorder).
