Hello:

I have had a brand new MBP 15'' for the past week (traded in my powerbook).
Other than a few quirks, I am generally happy with it. Some of the problems
that I am having have to do with not remembering wireless network information.
If I take the MBP to school, I have to reenter wireless network essid (it is not broadcast)
and WEP password. Same with when I get home.

I have had recurrent issues with the MBP not waking up from sleep and have
to do a hard reboot.

Has anyone else faced these problems ?

I also see on these forums that the MBP has issues with CPU temperature. So I installed
the speedit kernel extension and ran Harware Monitor. The temperature
when doing heavy tasks goes up to 75 degrees! Is this something I should
be worried about ?

Try creating different locations in network settings (system pref --> network --> location (dropdown menu) --> new location), so you will have one for your home and one for your school.

I've had this problem on my 17" 1ghz G4 as well as a 15" MBP. I could fix it for a few days by deleting all the network preferences . Another way that seem to fix it temporarily was to delete the wireless network passwords from keychain.

However the problem kept occuring. I ended up just broadcasting the SSID which i know you cant do with your school.

I hoping Apple will fix it sometime within the next 10 years.

That sounds normal for a high load. Mine was always in the low 80's during high CPU lods.

Hi Dave,

Temps are normal. Have you done all updates? 10.4.6 solved my connection issues. Have you installed the firmware update too?

I was having trouble getting my MBP to work with my home wireless network, and I have no idea if this will work for you, but here's what happened to me:
Updated firmware, updated software, installed bootcamp, installed Windows XP.
Worked fine on wired ethernet connection, only worked sporadically at home via Linksys wireless router. Had to enter data repeatedly, kept getting disconnected, etc.
I was tearing my hair out, trying tech support, nothing worked.
Decided to check settings in Windows XP, got wireless networking to function in Windows XP (this is my first Mac, but I've used Windows variations for 15 years).
Out of Boot Camp, went back to the Mac OS.
It's working! Without doing anyting more, wireless router connection is fine.
No problems for the last three days with the Mac OS and the wireless router. Go figure.
I still don't understand why things suddenly worked on the Mac side, after I first got the Windows side to work with wireless. But hey, give it a shot, it might do it for you, too.

BTW, exploring the MBP and OS X has been fun. I use some programs that are Windows only, so that had to be available for me in my new laptop. But now Boot Camp and Parallels made it possible for me to consider the Mac OS. Been using the MBP for one week now. Computing is fun again! I'm really liking this. But the wireless networking was a strange experience.

I have been having the same problem with My Macs and PeeCee's on my home network. My work around was this. Sold my linksys router, bought an Apple Airport Extreme base Station, and wallah! No more problems. Probably just random luck.....
