I am a new mac desktop owner and am wondering if i can print something from my powerbook over the network through some kind of printer sharing, i do not have a router that has a printer port, any suggestions?

There is a printer sharing option in the Sharing section of the System Preferences app. There should be more information on setting it up in the help menu.

To clarify:

once you've switched on printer sharing on the iMac, the connected printer will show up in the Print dialogs of every networked Mac.

I print to my Epson SC740 (hooked up to a CRT iMac) all the time from my Powerbook via Airport.

I did that and it still doesn't print to the shared printer. I added it as a printer and when I hit print it seems to go into the network void. Still not sure what is wrong

FWIW: Microsoft Word will not print AT ALL for me under Panther, so try with a different program if you've been trying with Office.

You might want to confirm that the print queue is actually not paused. My kids have loaded up the print queue with 50 attempts to print something before they come to me complaining that the computer isn't working. Typically, it's always been the the print queue has been paused for some reason.
