That took balls, and it sounds like you made the right move.
Did a similar thing a few years back - looked at schools for CS, but listened to my brother who said "CS majors are a dime a dozen." So, I entered college as a mechanical engineer. After a semester and a half, decided I didn't like it and switched out to English, which I always enjoyed much more. Unfortunately, I spent too much time programming, playing with my computer, and just "geeking out" in general that I failed
every class. So, then I switched into CS like I had originally wanted and couldn't be happier.
Of course, now, despite constantly getting B's and A's, my GPA sucks.
I'm glad I did it though.
