Two days after lifting the ban for federal funding on embryonic stem cell research, he signs the omnibus, which contains a provision OUTLAWING embryonic research of any kind.

*Shrug* As I understand it, the amendment in question was still in force from previous spending bills when he lifted the executive ban anyway. Some Dems on Congress were already talking about it when he signed the executive order. That's the next step on that particular agenda.

Yeah, and you're aware he had multiple opportunities to control what was placed in that bill, or even to veto it because of all the earmarks, aren't you?

Sure, but to say this makes him a "buffoon" is pretty strong. You can't tackle everything at once. As I mentioned, I'm pretty sure this amendment (which has been a recurring feature in many spending bills over the years) was already in force when he signed the executive order. It's been talked about before. By necessity, both the legislative amendment and the executive order have to be dealt with to make any headway on the issue. The executive order was low-hanging fruit, and paves the way to fight the legislative amendment another day.

It's nice to see the Libs on the defensive. You guys should get used to that feeling for the next 4 years.

Obamas stance on anything only lasts until the echo of his words die out. Even if he were to be impeached, we'd still have the official VP dolt running things....oh, Wait it would still be Nancy Pelosi.

Obama during the campaign: "I'm going to make things better!"

Obama today: "I'm going to try to keep things from getting worse!"

Damn, he sure lowered his sights.

Less valid, no. Pointless and possibly counter-productive? Yes. Especially if you're concerned about posts in the thread making "contributions".

Pointing this out is my contribution to you. No need to thank me.

Yeah, that's something I'd expect from a high school student hangin' with the guys, not the prez on national TV.

Totally inappropriate statement.

I think just to highlight the lack of common sense displayed by Obama and Biden. It's the same as when Bush was in office and we had threads making fun of the way he said things.

Heh. That's great.

As for #9 though, that's just amusing. Most of the other gaffes are pretty inconsequential. #1 - the bowling one - stands out by far.

Making fun of the president is fair game and good fun at that, but I don't understand the comparisons to Bush. The fact that Bush would bumble around was mostly icing on the cake given that overall, eloquence and speaking articulately was not one of his strong suits (as I'm sure most of us will agree with). Obama has bumbled around and surely will again, but I don't think any sober individual can claim that he is not an eloquent and articulate speaker. I've seen some Republicans in here sort of go on about Obama's teleprompter, but he has in fact written many of his own speeches. His use of a teleprompter is there to smooth things out, not to feed him good things to say that are being manufactured somewhere else. The notion of him being a puppet is just silly.

Concessions are a valuable tool for debate. Any audience grows numb to just relentless one-sided ideological lecturing. If you are going to offer any sort of concession, Obama's speaking abilities is surely as good a candidate as anything else.

It's also becoming more and more clear that it's not one of Obama's strong suits either, unless he's fed his lines via teleprompter. I'm not saying he's as bad "off the cuff" as Bush, but it seems as though talking without prepared responses still is above his "pay grade". Dan Quayle could do "good speech" and didn't bumble his words either. That doesn't mean he didn't deserve scorn when he said something that sounded really stupid, and most people heaped it on him.

Obama has bumbled around and surely will again, but I don't think any sober individual can claim that he is not an eloquent and articulate speaker.
...when reciting words prepared for him. Big whoop. I'd hope the guy in power could talk without either fumbling for an answer or staying something totally stupid when he wasn't being fed lines. We knew Biden couldn't do the latter, and it appears that Obama suffers from a little of both.

I've seen some Republicans in here sort of go on about Obama's teleprompter, but he has in fact written many of his own speeches. I don't think he's a "puppet". I think he does what he wants. I do though think that he's in over his head and that leads to him having communication problems when he doesn't have anything prepared. I CAN give a good speech on just about any subject you like if I can prepare in advance and I get to read it off a teleprompter. That doesn't mean I've got the intellect and ability to discuss the matters at hand without that added advantage.

DTB is no more a puppet of Michelle and David Axelrod than Clinton was a puppet of Hillary and Dick Morris.

You don't see it because you don't want to. If he such a master of the spoken word, and has such a mastery of they issues, why does he need the teleprompter for even the slightest statement? He can't give 15 minute speech without it.

Even those things you mentioned are not "off the cuff" they are a series of scripted or pre-approved questions/issues.

It's a simple question; If he is so brilliant why the reliance on the teleprompter?
Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

A teleprompter is just electronic cue cards. It is irrational to make the jump that the only way to be a master of the spoken word is to have every speech memorized. Everybody that has ever given a speech has prepared for it somehow, that's the whole point of a speech - it is a set of prepared statements.

How do you think that a teleprompter is giving Obama answers to reporter questions at press conferences, interviews, and debates? Will you really go so far as to say that all of the questions are scripted and that the entire media is in collusion with the administration?

We've been completely and utterly saturated with Obama interviews, speeches, rallies, debates, forums, etc. for years now. Where was Obama's Katie Couric moment? I'm pretty certain I know what your feelings are about the Palin/Couric interview stupendousman, so we don't have to go there, but I think it is safe to say that many felt that Palin came across as not prepared for that interview. Where is Obama's Couric interview? You have a much larger sample to choose from, so you should be able to find something...

I'm not talking about relatively inconsequential gaffes like the whole special olympics thing either, I'm talking about just sounding like he is literally unable to answer a policy related question articulately.

I think it says you can't use money generated from that appropriations bill on any embryonic stem cell research. It's not a blanket ban.
