YouTube trailer (movie release date: Aug 1)

I never read the comic it's based on. But the trailer looks pretty interesting.

Did we glance The Collector in there?

(Saw Thor last night and he was in the after credits jobbie).

Really? I've heard nothing positive about it. Might just have a watch of it though.

If you enjoy movies like "Star Wars" and "The 5th Element", then this is just perfect for you!
It steals a lot from Star Wars but in a very positive way.
When it was finished I had the feeling that I have just seen one of the best sience fiction movies ever - not comparable to Alien or 2001 though, since those movies are not the same genre!

Funny you mention that one! While I don't have anything negative to say about "The Avengers", I also don't remember it as an unusual good one either!

Few people at work. When it came up in conversation this morning, a few others (outside of the team that I work in) all said it was great. I started watching last night. So far so good.

I wonder if its a translation issue.

I never watch dubbed films. I presume my colleagues (who are mostly French) did.

Finally saw it. Apart from the full on nonsense and FAR too much glowey super powerful Lightning crap (hello Thor 2) and big giant crashy space ship over city (hello Thor 2) is was actually fun. And funny.

For the record, enjoyed it. Not "one of the best science fiction movies ever", but fun.

It's all 70s music anyway, my least favorite decade of the past 50 years.
(I'll understand the hate I get for that comment.
It can easily be explained – I'm just not into 'rock')

It worked well that the soundtrack was organic from the tape player. It was also an interesting choice to do it harvest. And the songs all fitted in really well. And of course we're great songs themselves.

My neighbor is a full-out commie, actual card-carrying member of the CPUSA, and he only listens to is 70s pop and rock. I don't think music is a clear indicator of a person's politics*.

I was thinking less about the decade and more about the lack of rock in poor Dakar's life....

Also I missed this - hey, people might not recognize the names, but play the song and they'd nod their head immediately. Even you would.

Well maybe if you're a Billy Bragg fan.

O/T my dad (who was a senior manager at a large international UK bank) tried to emigrate to the US when he retired. Apparently because he was a member of the UK communist party when he was in his early twenties he's was still classed as politically undesirable.

Some people prefer Taylor Swift and Beyonce, for whatever reason.

Well, that's not the case here, either.

I hadn't heard of half the names or songs on the Snatch soundtrack, but I think that one was great. (Coincidentally, 10cc is there)

Hey (hey) What's the matter with your head? yeah...
Hey (hey) What's the matter with your mind and all your sighing?
And-a ooh-ohh
Hey (hey) Nothin's a matter with your head, baby, find it
Come on and find it
Hell, with it, baby, 'cause you're fine and you're mine
And you look so divine
