Hello, hope this is the right place to post.

I just bought a LaCie External hard drive and have a question. I want to use it for editing film on a Mac Book Pro. I am wondering, what is the most appropriate way to format it? i saw options like journaled, extended journaled, etc., etc.

Does anyone know what is the ideal setting for external hard drives, especially for editing film?

Thanks a bunch!

Journaled.

Now, if you ever plan on hooking up that drive to a Windows machine, you might think about using that other option. I think it is called NTFS.

A cool advantage of formatting the drive in journaled is that it allows you to install Mac OS X on that drive. This is a great troubleshooting tool in case you Mac HDD is having problems or has major corruption; you can boot your Mac off the external drive (as long as we are talking about a firewire drive).
