And I need to send in my rebate information by Nov. 15. And I still have yet to recieve my printer or PowerBook. This is very frustrating.

I ordered 15" 1.25 GHz 512 MB (1 DIMM) 80GB 5400 rpm this morning and just received the order approval. It showed est ship date 12/23/03.

Out of curiosity, I tried the same exact configuration except for normal 80 GB 4200 RPM option and it showed shipping in 5-7 days.

Anyone has a theory to explain the big difference?

My theory is this: for the normal 80 GB 4200 RPM, Apple must have built enough stock (or have enough units in the pipeline) to fulfill the existing/new orders. But the BTO orders are delayed because they'll be incorporating new changes/fixes to the whitespots or other problems. I hope I'm right!

No, I just phoned them.

They are out of stock of the 5400 RPM drives apparently and they are getting a bunch in soon. I was going to cancel my order b/c he said a 10-15 business day wait for a stock one.. But I waited.

So I phoned back just now and got a different person. She tells me my computer is actually done being built, but it has yet to enter shipping process for some reason. That's a relief, somewhat

Oh, so how long has it been since you placed your order originally?

September 26, 2003.

It was supposed to go out on 10/03/03, but the wire transfer failed and they cancelled my order apparently. Then Executive Relations contacted me and sorted out my problem and it re-instated my order 10/17/03.

ONE thing i learnt from shopping online is to never trust whoever you're speaking to over the phone. THey are train to deal with customers. They are being paid to appease customers frustrations. They are good at it. Ha ha. To those that have to wait till 12.23.2003 if you don't mind the preposterous delay then go ahead with the order ... i'm sure you won't regret.

For those that can't....i'd advice you to drop by physically to your local apple reseller or apple store and buy it off the shelf.
