I'm just curious what size iPad 2 you guys got.

My iPhone 4 is 16 GB, and I think I'll get the same size for the iPad 2. I won't be putting much music on the iPad (since I will have my iPhone with me at all times anyway), but I will put some DVD rips on the iPad 2, at about 1.0 to 2.5 GB each.

Maybe when the iPad line gets the ability to play back HD H.264 at 1080p30 I'll buy a 128 GB model.

64.

My original was 16. I was able to fill that up purely with apps and PDFs, so I obviously needed at least a 32. As it stands, even that's not enough unless I want to manage individual apps and PDFs. I'm only going to get more apps and PDFs, those apps get bigger, and at some point it would be nice to actually have something other than books, papers and games on it.

So it was 64.

The only thing which made me hesitate is the potential of a quick turnover.

I went with the 32. I also have a 32GB iPhone 4 which I use mainly for music, apps and games. I thought about the 16 GB iPad since I wasn't going to put much music on it. But I decided to get the extra space to have room for extra movies when traveling and have some music on it. And still have plenty of space for apps, games, and files I may need for school.
There's a good chance I won't use all 32GBs but I'd rather have too much than not enough.

Hmmm... Interesting. It seems the 16 GB isn't too popular in the poll yet.

I see where you guys are coming from, in that 16 GB is somewhat of a compromise, but somehow $600 for a 32 GB iPad seems too costly too me. Then again, it's "only" $100 more. Still, I'll get a 16 GB, and if I find it's a bit limiting, I'll probably get a bigger one... a year later... and sell the 16 GB then.

The part about the PDFs is a good point. However, AFAIK people I know who used their original iPads for PDFs only used up a couple GBs worth or less of space with PDFs. Mind you these are journal article PDFs, not art posters or advertising or whatever, so space usage wouldn't be expected to be high.

Wait... Are you trying to say $100 for 16GB of flash memory is overpriced?

Yeah. These are graphic intensive 20MB a pop type things (mostly out-of-print role-playing games). My journal articles are a small fraction. I should also note the size of my PDF collection pre-iPad was almost zero. I wasn't expecting my iPad to get so much use as a book reader, it just turned out that way.

My PDFs aren't much. Just powerpoint slides I made to PDF with 2 slides a page to view during classes, and also use the app GoodReader to add notes to the PDFs.
This is my first iPad so trying to find the most uses for it.
I also work at Target so using my discount on the iPad helped make up my mind to go with the 32GB.

*IF* I upgrade, I'll be going with the 16GB. I have a 32GB iPad (1). While I use more than 16GB, it's just barely more. I listen to my music on the iPhone, and really the only big content I have on the iPad is the videos. Can I compromise by not loading every video on the iPad? To save $, heck yeah.

I bought a 16GB. It's about the same price for a 32GB wifi only vs a 16GB 3G. No brainer.

What do you use the extra space for?

I'd consider an 8.9". I'd have to play with it a while first though to make sure surfing didn't suck at that pixel density.

How many of you with the original iPad spent the money to upgrade to the iPad 2?

I will probably get my hands on one, but only because I'll pass my current model on to our next hire. Were it my own cash I would not bother. There aren't enough new features to make it worth my while.

I did, but mostly because I wanted to get a 3G model instead of relying on my Sprint MiFi for access. If I already had a 3G iPad 1 I probably would not have upgraded.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

I did, but part of it was knowing I had a good home lined up for my 1st gen. Buying a new one for me was also buying an old one for a friend.

Well I cannot say that I really "use" it.
I just like to not run out of space. The bigger items that use the space are magazines, PDF's, video podcasts and such. I sync as much as possible to bring with me in case there is anything specific that I am in the mood for.

When I got the iPhone 4, I got the 16gb and exchanged it within 3 days because when I synced I ran out of space
