Like the others that posted in the thread, I found it funny in a smirking kinda way because it exposes the attitude that many Americans unfortunately have these days.

I think it's a growing trend.

Unlikely to go away until the followers of "religions of peace" make an effort to distance themselves from terrorists who kill in the name of the same religion.

Silence = agreement, to most people.

Nothing against a healthy dose of black humor - I'm all for that. But considering the fact that the initial post listed "Hebrew", "Arabic" and "Farsi", the comment "Terrorist" strikes me as neither particularly funny or racist - more than anything else it's tad bit on the dumb side.

Heh, thanks for the link MoS.

Mrjinglesusa, did you take the time to look at where the author of that comment is from? It might not be the funniest thing ever but it sure as hell does not have a racist background. And certainly no reason to get your panties in a bunch.

I wouldn't have posted that if it had only mentioned "Arabic".

That would have been too simple - it wasn't the Political Lounge, after all.

Edit: I'm impressed that it warranted a thread of its own, though.

I thought so after MoS posted a link to the original thread. My first reply was written after reading Mrjinglesusa's post - hence my second post right after that.

Implying that Spheric Harlot's comment was racist somehow reminds me of those people who, on their way to work, see a billboard on the highway and as soon as they arrive at the office, they call up the manufacturers' customer service hotline to complain that the people depicted in the ad do not sufficinetly represent the racial diversity of the country.

In short - being aware of and fighting against racism is definitely a good thing - as long as you don't get carried away.

From Germany, what's your point? And posting about a comment that was both unwarranted and offensive does not make ones "panties in a bunch." If you were Arab, would you find this funny? What if it was simply about Hebrew support and the next comment was "Greedy money grabber?" Or, about better Asian text support and the next comment was some generalization about Asians? Get my point? Making a comment like that in response to a question about Hebrew, Farsi, and Arabic support in Office 2004 was not funny, black humor or not.

Well, it's not funny, and I wouldn't take it too seriously, just because there are so many more important things in the world.

since Spheric said it i don't consider it racist because i'm assuming he was saying it sarcastically. so its funny in the sense that he's making fun of people who actually say stuff like that.

Spheric was not calling you a terrorist. Rather, it was a criticism on a society whose first thought associates terrorist with anything Arabic.

The statement shouldn't have been made outside of the political lounge since it is totally out of context if you don't understand Spheric's political leanings.

In a generic sense its funny AND racist. Not that funny nor that racist.

In the terms of mocking the current ignorance of many americans: priceless and not racist.

Well, it certainly reflected the ignorance of Germans - although it appears that he has attempted to redirect blame toward Americans by suggesting that Americans make such comments all the time.

Note that no Americans chose to make racist comments, but a German did. How ironic is that? German, racist.

It's as if he wants to be an American - but fails miserably at the task.

effgee - Thank god this is not an atrocity - who should give a sh!t about a dead towelhead anyway?

Ok, now it's good already - if you already feel the need to take a single sentence and paste it here completely out of context (with the sole purpose of discrediting other people), you could at the very least have the balls provide a link to the appropriate thread.

But I guess that's what you can expect from someone who very much would like to urinate with the big dogs but can't lift his leg with the little ones.

What's a 'racsit'?

On a more serious note, you guys need to lighten up. Anyone who has read Spheric's political posts will know that he is not anti-arab, anti-muslim, anti-hebrew (can one be anti-language?!)... or<insert nationality/religion here>. And I say that as an Arab, Muslim poster here on MacNN

If you're talking about retardation in a clinical sense, you might want to take a peek in the mirror. I recommend you take a history book (or ask uncle Google) and look up who really "invented" fascism. If only to make sure that in the future you don't come across so much as - er, how do I put it mildly - "uneducated".

I believe spheric's comment was pure sarcasm, and humour; with a nod in the direction of ignorant (some) Americans, and their (for some) very simplistic, but wholly ignorant view of Arabs, Muslims, terrorists, etc.

So a joke, knowing spheric's politicial leanings in the Pol. forum, but perhaps a bit misplaced being in the software forum.

Your only comment to that post was "Terrorist." Why? If you were trying to be funny I found it lacking in humor. I don't know you or your political views so I assume you said it because of the ethnic groups mentioned in the post: Hebrew, ARABIC, and FARSI. Two of the three are definitely spoken by terrorists (FACT) and the 3rd may be depending on your political views (OPINION). Therefore, it seemed to me you lumped anyone wanting support for those languages as "terrorists." I just found it to be a stupid comment that's all.

How can that NOT be construed as "racist?"

Honest question.
