They've already learned quite well where to go for innovation.

They look nothing like the PowerBook/MacBookPro keys; the shape of the keys is completely different. Also, there are bunches of quite similar-looking keyboards out there already that have keys that don’t look anything like the PB/MBP keys, either.

Keyboards are not exactly the scope where you’d expect mind-blowing originality—to a certain extent, all keyboards look the same. It’s hard to come up with a keyboard design that’s useful and yet has not been done before.

I wish somebody would release a keyboard like the PowerBook's.

I'd say the key shape and backlight are very similar. The keyboard shape as a whole differs, though.

The backlight is similar, that’s true.

But the shape of the keys is very different, I think, for the simple reason that the MS keys have ‘square bevels’, and the PB keys don’t (I’m not sure if that’s an actual way of describing it; I mean that the top, flat part of the keys is square, with four well-defined edges that slope downwards to the bottom of the keyboard, while the PB keys have well-defined lines only on two sides [left and right], and the other two [top and bottom] are soft and slope gradually downwards). That gives the two a very different look, in my eyes.

In all seriousness ...

Who gives a f*ck? It's not like Apple was the first to come out with the idea of lighting up keyboard keys. Oh, oh ... and do they have a patent on bluish-white light?

Oisin:

True; the height/flatness seems to be on a similar key (...), though.

Is the slight "v" shape actually more ergonomical, or is it just supposed to look like it is? I'd never buy a keyboard like that as I find them terribly awkward to type with.
