None of those are reasons people smoke. They are reasons people might try smoking, but once they start they continue for one reason--addiction. At the point, the above reasons become justifications.

I enjoy the flavor of tobacco, plus the nicotine is a rush.
A few cigarettes a day is enough for me, as well as a good cigar every few months or so.

I quit. It's proof that we humans aren't as intelligent as we think. But hey, it's an addiction, and lots of people want to quit but can't.
Oh and the whole in before gorickey thing has been done to death (IB4GR).

Same here. Well, sort of. Both activities are risky.
So I masturbate, therefore I do not actually inhale.

Order online ! Don't pay your money to some bastards who are ripping you off.
You can get a carton from anywhere from about $20 bucks and up online.
And no, obviously smoking is not good for anybody, but if one is first going to smoke, then one might as well do it for the cheapest amount of money.

I have never smoked and probably never will. it just costs too much!

i've been smoking regularly since starting college in 2k, but I'm pretty much in the same boat as osiris--a few cigarettes a day, or about a pack per week. although when we're hitting the bars, it goes up to half a pack per night. the cigars and cigarillos are quite delectable as well. quite honestly, i could quit if i wanted to, and there have been times when i just stopped smoking for a few months, but it's just too fun to pass up.
as for the folks who are doing several packs a day.. well, that's totally different.
and for the record, i smoke parliament lights with the recessed filter. i enjoy the european parliament lights even better as they have lower nitrosamine levels as well as using charcoal filters.
parliament lights are also commonly known as "p-funks". one can also say that prior to smoking a parliament that one is about to "open up a session of parliament".

I used to smoke, but stopped 3 months ago - and haven't smoked a ziggy since. I don't feel the urge anymore - a side effect of me stopping, was gaining 8 kgs - but that's ok, since I have reached my ideal weight of 80 kgs now

Actually, putting a cigarette in your mouth is like putting a gun to your head that shoots very very very very slow bullets... they will get you eventually.

1. It's "too fun..." to inhale carcinogenic chemicals into your body on a regular basis? Strange sense of humor.
2. Killing yourself slowly with two cigarettes or two packs/day is not "totally different".
3. Putting lesser amounts of carcinogenic chemicals in your body is not safer.
4. Getting the cigs cheaper will allow you to put more money aside for a nicer coffin.

Mine was y2k. Never looked back... had one last Marlboro Medium around 11:50ish... broke the remaining one in half when done and threw out the pack.
Smoked for 6 years. The thing that helped was changing my environment - one change was buying a new car so "no smoking in it".

Well, considering I smoke a pipe (think Sherlock Holmes not Bob Marley) this thread is more general than the other thread that asked specifically about cigarettes.
For the record, I've got 6 or 7 pipes--two are awaiting repair--and my favorite pipemaker in the states is Boswell Pipes in Chambersburg, PA. I also am a big fan of Brigham (Canadian), Castleford (English), and a sos-so fan of Petersen pipes. I have never really gone in for the Savinelli's or the other big name Italian pipe makers.
And yes, pipe smoking is bad for you but it is not addicting. I might have a pipe every day for three or four days straight and ten not have a pipe for an equal length of time.
So, there's my annswer.

1. It's too fun, man! I get my pleasure from the acts that I engage in as much as the auto racecar driver gets his from travelling in speeds excess of 200 miles per hour. And I don't have to pay for the car and gas.
2. Of course it is! There's moderation and then there's abuse.
3. Yes it is, sure it is! Smoking less certainly isn't safe, but it's less dangerous, which coincidentally is more safe. As the anti-smoking commercials suggest, no one knows which cigarette is the one that kills you.
4. It's a really nice coffin though! A tisket, a tasket, tell us about the casket! I'll tell you about the casket, my good friend...
