I think the best dialog is always between Ben and John. One moment, Ben is (seemingly) setting him up as his replacement, the next his is belittling him. Sometimes Ben bestows deep secrets, then he is confusing John with riddles.

Last night had some great lines... "didn't he just say not to put metal in there?"

I think these two are the most interesting characters. Then Desmond. Then Hurley. Jack's starting to wear very thin. I like where Sun's character is going.

I liked this season, short as it was. It didn't need to be longer to end that plot arch. I will be looking forward to season 5.. the next to last season of Lost.
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

I suspect we will might just see one side of the story for most of next season, kind of like seeing just half the plane survivors for a while. If so, I hope it's the "bad things" that happen on the island after the others are rescued. It would be good to give Jack and crew a rest.

This season has been decent, and the last few episodes have been very good about pace and wrapping up story lines. I feel like some stragglers have been closed and there is a theme of refocus and new plot momentum.

Your loss.

As a person who loves a mystery, I can't understand people who've given up on the show. They had me hooked in S1, but the announcement of the end date has revitalized the show and made it even more compelling. We know we're going to get the answers and we're being taken on a fantastic ride in the meantime. The way they gave us clue after clue that Bentham was really Locke without making it blatantly obvious until the end was outstanding.

So what did Ben mean when he said to John "I'm sorry for all I've put you through"? Anybody think Ben has been messing with John long before he got to the island? We know Richard has been involved in John's life since childhood.

Maybe. On the other hand, we've seen Ben play with his mind, shoot him, and leave him for dead, so he could've been talking about that.

Back to the Island! Everyone ready? Predictions?

I'm looking forward to seeing Sun being a cold, calculating bad-ass.

I'm also very curious as to how they will get back to the Island.

This is American broadcast television.. how did you surmise that anything happening to a child would be even remotely possible? ABC is owned by Disney..

..but yeah. Not even my dark mind wandered there.

As for Lost, holy ****. It's already been 4.5 years of cock teasing. I wish they'd just get it over with and do a 16 hour season premiere.

Faraday goes back in time to when Marvin Candle/Mark Wickmund/Edgar Hallawax is first setting up the stations to try to change the future. It can be done, he was lying to Sawyer and the gang.

That's pretty much all I got out of two hours of TV.

I also gathered that the island moving around time and position explained how the ship ended up in the middle of the island and how a plane leaving Africa could have ended up crossing its path

I was not thrilled to see them introduce at least one more group of people to the recent history of the island by way of the gun toting soldiers and the people who shot the flaming arrows.

This makes complete sense. Whidmore told Ben that the island was his and Ben took it from him. I supposed he either pushed the wheel or was exiled some other way and that's why he's trying to control it. That might also explain his buying the diary from the Black Rock.

And Desmond names his kid Charlie?
I thought that was a nice touch.

It looks like we were all right about the identity of Daniel's mother: Ms. Hawking.

What happened in the last 2 minutes or so? My DVR cut off for some reason, even though I have it set to record 2 minutes past the scheduled end time.

Cood casting for young Charles Whitmore, he looks rather similar to the older actor. Oh and I wouldn't read too much into the Charles name of Penny's baby, judging by the troves of red herrings in these series.

Usually the actual clues are much more subtle.
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

That makes sense. I wonder if we can stretch this time shifting to explain the Black Smoke?
(poor Black Smoke. it was introduced as the Big Nasty at the beginning of the series and now only gets pulled out once a season. Dharma had a massive sonic fence to keep it at bay, and yet it barely seems to be around anymore)

Without a doubt not Richard. We also saw Jacob in profile sitting in a chair, and it was not Richard. I posted a screencap several pages back in this thread. But speculating on who Jacob looks like is pointless, since the producers say the role hasn't actually be cast yet — they just pulled in some guy on the set to sit there and "be" Jacob since you couldn't really see him and no acting was involved.

Also, a couple of thoughts:

1. Since the only other Other who got a big speaking role was Charles Widmore, I'm guessing Ellie is Eloise Hawking.

2. Eloise Hawking used to be hot.

I think that's pretty much a given. I'm curious to see if Charles will end up being Daniel's father. Hawking convinced Desmond not to buy the ring so he would end up on the island to push the button. His presence there allows Faraday to use Des as his constant and to communicate with the outside world. Desmond is now going to L.A. to meet up with Hawking with Penny in tow. Hawking is currently working with Ben, who plans to kill Penny. Hmm....

Faraday seems to think the flashes come at random. I think he would have noticed if it were that regular.

Oh, something else I thought was interesting (not necessarily from a plot perspective, but more "I wonder why the writers did that"): Juliet repeatedly calls herself an "Other" in this episode. Apparently the Others don't actually have a name for themselves at all.
