The only thing that I had to do was use Tome Viewer to extract the Disc Burner extension, program, and the ATA extension for the AddOns folder. iTunes recognized the drive before I installed Disc Burner, and has worked flawlessly with it. Disc Burner has mounted every blank I have inserted, and has burned every file I've asked it to. So, if you've got 9.1 installed, all you have to do is swap the Sony for the CDROM. The drive worked with 9.0.4 and iTunes, but Disc Burner won't run under 9.0.4. Thus the upgrade.

I installed a Sony 160E on my Beige G3 Tower Rev 1.

-The good
Bootable
Recognized by iTunes and Disk Burner

-The bad
Skips two or three times during regular music play of a CD (only tried with iTunes, not CD Apple CD player software) on original CD player there was never a problem.
Goes through the burn cycle and extracts MP3 files then after the first song burn, kicks the disk out and reports Unknown Error -7xxx --I dont remember the full number. One of the three disks was readable and played the first song, The other two would not.

Others have had success with this drive and Beige G3s. Is the Drive Bad?

Anyone with any ideas?

Is anyone else wondering when Apple's just going to post the damn drivers for 3rd party drives themselves like they promised over a month ago at the keynote? It doesn't seem like it should be taking that long..

You think they(apple) would post the drivers already. If they want to keep the momentum going that they have started.

I just installed Apple's Disc Burner and itunes and am burning away with System 9.1. No messing with plugins or moving things around folders. Easy as pie. I'm using my external ZipCD.
