We have a first gen iPhone and had to do a restore, it is sim locked on o2 but we are no longer in the Uk, we have no o2 sims to activate.
We only want to use the phone for our son to listen to music, not using the phone features!
Is there anything we can do to restore it and connect it to iTunes to load some music onto it?

I'm pretty sure the short answer here is you have to jailbreak it.

I've never done it, so I'm not much use here.
If you google "use iPhone without sim card" you'll get some YouTube how-to videos.
You can also try "use iPhone as iPod touch".

This is the first time that I encounter iPhone not restoring. Perhaps try some useful info in the Apple website. I'm not too sure though.

You have to have a SIM card for it to do the restore (but you don't have to have the card in at any point past the restore).

Ah, because this is a Uk iPhone it is locked to the O2 network, we no longer have a sim for them. We have Australian sim cards and iPhones and have tried using them but just get a message saying invalid sim? Or not compatible. Any ideas?
