After installing 9.1 I realized I was missing a folder on my HD. For the life of me I couldn't figure out what it was. Then I noticed my Netscape and IE folders were in my "Applications (Mac OS 9)" folder. I used to keep them in a folder named "Internet Apps" inside of a root folder called "Internet". The install put the "Internet" folder in my "Applications (Mac OS 9)" folder, got rid of my "Internet Apps" folder that was in my "Internet" folder and put all my individual app. folders in my new "Applications (Mac OS 9)". No biggie, but what's up with that. Wierd.

Apple is just trying to warm everyone up to the default structure and organization of OS X.

it took me months of headaches to get IE5 and OE5 running smooth and stable on my os904. if os9.1 [as i believe] messes with this then i'm going to wait.

i don't have one single problem with my 'puter and, as the last several hundred posts to this site suggest, if i intro 9.1, i'll get sent back to purgatory.

mainbrain will not cope with that just yet.

All it does is move the location of the applications themselves, none of their supporting files in the system folder. OS 9.1 shouldn't affect the stability of your apps. Location doesn't matter. Personally, I've found everything to be more stable with 9.1.

I've also had no problems with 9.1 other than the odd change of location which I put back the way I had with no problems.

A polite smart install would leave an alias where a folder directory was.

I have too many folders in Applications, even in old Internet, to have under one directory.

And until OS X is installed, no need for the "(Mac OS 9)" affixed. Why not change the Applications directory in OS X to something? Like Applixations or Application_X

I think someone got carried away. There are also new bugs in adding and renaming items in Favorites, even found a folder that refused to allow to be added.
