Well, are they? I don't think I've seen any conservatives on MacNN bitch about little typos, apostrophe misuses, or grammatical errors.

(Funny thing is, most of the times their corrections are wrong)

I try not to nitpick other people's spelling and grammar but I'd prefer if people spent more time on their words.

But I have corrected people in the past, and I'm not a liberal. But I'm not a conservative, either.

It's my opinion that it merely enhances your arguments to have proper command of the language you communicate in.

Yeah. I agree with davesimondotcom. I am aware of them and they slightly irk. But if I can get the jist of the message I will USUALLY leave it be.

Even though it is important it isn't always the battle I wish to fight at the time and sometimes I believe it's a hopeless battle.

Actually, there are times when clear communication is best served (and sometimes ONLY served) by observance of the rules of grammar and punctuation.

Think of it as a whole world of Rule 8 for you to enjoy!

Being a grammar nazi is just another manifestation of the egotism of some people here. If someone's grammar sucks so much that their meaning is obscured, well that is one thing, but those instances are pretty rare.

In other words: get over yourselves.

Good god, what would this possibly have to do with being liberal or conservative?

I mean, what's next from you people:

"Somebody side-swiped my car on the way home and then just drove off...they must've been a damn liberal!"

You know, a friend of mine was saying this morning to me that liberals should just give up trying to be polite and respect everyone's feelings and just start saying it like it is.

Well, I've decided he was right: You guys are completely nuts. If I could use profanity to sum up how stupid your liberal/conservative fixation is without getting my post deleted, then I would.

Give me an f'ing break.

I can be a stickler at times online about blatant spelling and grammar errors, especially if it's a public forum.

I agree.

Not only that, when correcting someone said person usually ends up making a grammatical error themselves.

Please do. And tell all the other libs to do so. Then we might finally be rid of all this political correctness crap.

Speaking of, do we have a MacNN official spelling of things like colo(u)r?

It's "colour" and on this point (and probably this point alone), Doofy and I are in agreement.

I'm a free-thinker and I frequently critique other people's punctuation and grammar. Of course, I'm a trained professional-don't try this at home! (I really am a trained tech writer...)

Anyway, mojo2 is spot on. If there's less clarity because of a missed rule, is it the fault of the rule, the reader, or the writer? I say it's the writer, who did not ensure his or her message was clear. I am anything but exacting in my grammatical constructs, but I work very hard at being clear in what I post.

And I feel that the misuse of apostrophes is a sign of intellectual laziness, if not lack of intellect itself. In some things there may be some flexibility-I use "TVs" to indicate more than one TV, while others may use "TV's" and intend the plural as well. But when the term is a word, not a contraction or acronym-like thing, then it's just stupid looking. "I have five table's." That's just dumb, and I sometimes call writers of such on their poor writing.

Assuming you aren't misusing the word, "sets," exactly what transparent stuff do you place in the refrigerator to allow it to set?

What is the stuff made of? Where does the stuff come from? How is it used? What are it's qualities?

There more to clarity of communication than just grammar and punctuation.

Stuff mixed with hot water, allowed to cool and then placed in the fridge to set or solidify.

Boom, that describes me too. I'm not a fully trained tech writer, yet, but I am majoring in scientific and technical communication, and the area in which I'm most comfortable is editing.

Perhaps, two or three years down the line, I will be a professional grammar nazi. As far as correcting people's posts, I generally consider it rude to dedicate an entire post to grammar corrections and nothing else, unless the errors are so egregious that it's difficult to comprehend the meaning. But that doesn't mean that stupid errors don't bother me, or that I don't think people should be careful to learn a few basic rules and follow them. Apostrophe rules are very easy to learn, which is why it bugs me so much when people can't figure them out (especially when he or she continues to make errors after others repeatedly explain the rules).

I probably made a bunch of grammatical errors in the above post

"That's Mama Luigi to you, Mario!" *wheeze*

You're talking about, "Jello Shots," I think.

Here's a link to a site which is devoted to all things jello shotery.

JELLO SHOTS

How would you like to be an absolute hit at the next party you attend?
How would you like to throw a party that everyone will be talking
about for weeks? If you answered YES to either of these questions, I
can help you do it! It's EASY! Lead on MONTEJELLO!

If there is one thing I know about it is JELLO SHOTS! Over the years I
have made thousands of them. I've made red ones, green ones, yellow
ones, blue ones, orange ones, purple ones even black ones! I've used
vodka, flavored vodka, gin, rum, wine, champagne, liqueurs and
schnapps. I have used plain water, all kinds of juices, seltzers,
tonic waters, and ginger ale. I have made layered Shots, a few shots
all the way to hundreds of shots. I've made Christmas, Valentines,
Easter and Halloween Jello Shot molds. I've even been know to make a
"birthday cake" or two. I've made one flavor, two flavors….ten flavors.
I have tried over 20 different ways of just mixing the gelatin, water
and alcohol together. I have tried dozens of ratios of water vs.
alcohol. And I have come up with what I think, (and many other people
too!) is the best ratio for each recipe of Jello. Here on this website
I will share with you all of my knowledge and experience in the making
of Jello shots.

Another shocker - Doofy is now going to disagree with you. That is clearly Jelly.

Man, those shots look scrumptious. That is indeed what we called toxic sludge!

I went hunting for a photo of a box of jelly and didn't find it, but I did manage to find a photo that nicely closes the circle of posts. One for Doofy.

They would probably sell QUITE well after Fox News and Rush Limbaugh mentioned them...

Which would happen after the feminist movement criticized them...

Which would happen after someone sent a few free boxes to their offices.
