Does anyone here use their powerbook for portable recording and arrangement on the road?...I'm curious how many tracks of audio + audio plugins the powerbooks can handle. Looking to buy my first powerbook after expo.
cheers.

Also looking for a powerbook for music production after Paris.

Check out www.osxaudio.com
www.soundonsound.com
http://community.sonikmatter.com/cgi...ultimatebb.cgi

Search these sites for some good info on track count, softsynth/FX demands on CPU etc.

You'll probably find that for serious tracks (24+) an external Firewire drive will be an essential accompaniment.

If the new PB's are G4 (99% sure they will be) give the 12" a miss if it does'nt have L3 cache as this is pretty important when using a PB for audio production.

Good Luck

Actually, people are reporting 24 channels of 24-bit/44kHz on the Powerbooks' INTERNAL 4200rpm drive since the Logic 6.2 (OS X) update.
