my 20 gig says 18.5 and it is normal, actually the hard drive companys are getting sued right now because of it. It happens on all hard drives, a 300 gig is the worst it will only show about 260 gigs or less cant remember. The reason it does this is because the hard drive companys are dividing the sectors by 1200 or something and the computer (which is the right measurement) is divinding them by 1250 or something like that. But anyway to answer your question, no you are not the only one.

Take it back to the store immediately and ask for a replacement. If they refuse, demand that they at least give you .8GB from another iPod to put into yours.

Just kidding, but this is probably the single-most asked question on the forums, both with regard to normal hard drives (which have the same "problem") and iPods. You might try a search next time. Thanks.

Keep in mind that the basic OS and menus take up some space as well. Just like my new powerbook being an 80gb but there only being 65 gb free.
