It seems that most of you have 12" iBooks? Any particular reason not to have 14"?

Because the 14" is more expensive, bigger, heavier, has the same screen resolution as the 12" (making the screen blurred in some peoples opinion), and it is only slightly faster than the 12", so theres no real reason to get a 14"

That was almost exactly the same reasoning I used when I bought my wife the 12". The 12" is also far more portable and even fun to use. The 14" looks kinda bigish. (Just my opinion ... apologies to 14" fans.)

Yeah I didn't like all the white plastic around the keyboard on the 14", and I agree that the screen looks a bit softer (not that the 12" is the best LCD around by any means). I also wanted the portability. If I'm going to be doing hours of work at home I just plug it into a 17" screen, kb+mouse, etc. I've got a firewire HD and DVD burner now, so it really is like a desktop replacement, yet smaller than most text books when I take it to uni.

I got the 14" cause it's...well...bigger. I have rather large hands, not that the keyboard's any bigger, but my hand is about an inch short of spanning the entire keyboard, so the extra palm rest area is nice. My dad's got a 12" and he thinks it's just too small. And when I'm watching movies in my car, the 14" is very nice to have. Either way I have it spanned to a 19" CRT when I'm parked at home, so I guess it doesn't matter that much. Here's my normal setup:

It's an elecom skin case, a really tight case that has this bouncy stuff inbetween the material that makes it feel like it can take a real hard hit (it also advertises it can). Hugs the iBook as well, I use it to put inside my bag to protect it.

Heres my setup. I know its kinda ghetto with the super old crt, but until i get some cash its gunna have to do. Im really diggin the brand new iBook though. The thing flies with 1gb of ram.

I used to have a Dell Inspiron 5100 that weighed about 9 lbs. It was hell to put on my lap so I wanted something more portable for walking around the house or taking to class. I really liked the 12" since it was less bulky. Here it is with the mouse that I got to match my Dell.


My wife thinks it's weird that I take it into the restroom with me all the time when I take a dump but I figure that's one of the perks to having a light wireless laptop. I even have a stool that I put it on so I can read ebooks in the bathtub.

My iBook, is of course, rather portable and finds itself in many places. But this is its official place on my workstation desk when not at work elsewhere. Here you can see it running Einstein@home. I usually run it without graphics, but for aesthetic purposes I thought it might be nice to show off the screen saver here.

Hey, that's my work station; It's supposed to be full of wires and stuff. Right behind the iBook is my APC UPS, so there's naturally a lot of cable traffic there.

man, the ibook g3 s look so nice. The silver -ish finish and the elegan "iBook" font. And the cool blazing white keyboard. The clear cover. they downgraded in my opinion with the g4s
