She cowered and trembled to prepare to receive a beating- something she'd never come close to doing before.
Same thing happened with our 'pre owned dog.' He hides from all the horse whips and is very sensitive to whether or not you are angry or happy. He even hides under things at loud noises (ie, dropping something, mower). The only time we have ever hit him was when he killed a heap of our chooks, and that was today. I feel guilty for doing it, but it was straight after, and he knew what he had done was wrong. It wasnt very nice for my little sister to see the guts of all her friends, (chooks) spread all over the lawn. She helped pick them up and had to pick up her favourites head, and vomited.

Kudos to you for taking in a special dog.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

My friends dog does that. I've stayed at their place while they're out of town to look after him a couple of times. When you wake up in the morning you find him calmly sitting next to the bed starring directly at you. As soon as you get out of bed he begins to parade around the room singing woooooo ooooooooo oooooooo wooooooooo. Very funny.
