I just bout this D-Link AirPlus Extreme. It says that with a firmware update it will put out 108mb/s. Anyone know what the deal with this is, is it compatible with my PowerBooks airport extreme?,

Odds are it won't but I didn't really research it. D-link has used in the passed a "turbo" I believe they called it protocol for 802.11b (at 22Mbps). I imagine it would be the same for 802.11g (108Mbps) bandwidth. I don't know the particulars, but I recall it being available on their gear only as well.

it appears to use two channels at once to broadcast 54 Mbps x 2. the airport card doesn't support this - you need a wireless card that does, like a d-link pcmcia card (which you can only use if you have a pcmcia slot - the 12" powerbook doesn't).

as superlarry pointed out, it is proprietary tech - and I read it as well in a review. So you would have to use the D-Link card for it (some other macnufacturer has it as well).
I'll go looking for that link somewhere.
